ok, i didnt ride my bike for about 10 weeks through christmas period.
i have given it a good few rides recently, with no problems, im very happy with how the SV managed the storage!!! (no garage)

i last rode it on sunday, for a good 2 hours.

havent started her since, this morning, i go to start and i get a few very poor attempts to turn over and nothing but a 'wheezing' sound.
tried a few bump starts with a mate and nothing....

im guessing the battery.....?
but any other ideas? / similar probs??

cheers guys. :D

I'd def charge up the battery first because it's the easiest thing to do & then look further if that doesn't solve the problem.

Use a charger for bike batteries eg an Optimate. Dont use a car battery charger.

???

I thought someone had nicked your battery!

If it turns out to be knackered. Balddood is the battery man! I can sort out a phone number if you need it

cheers for the responses guys.... i havent had chance to have a look.
but i was planning to use jump leads from a 12V car battery to get her going.... then see if the battery holds charge from the run...

is this not a good idea?
whats the difference betweena car and a bike battery charge then??

cheers.

I use a Optimate trickle charger to keep my battery happy now I have a garage.

When mine did go flat last winter, I jumped it fine from a car no worries, no problem.

Sv's are a pain to bump start to difficult to get to turn over without falling off! Was the only time I was wishing for a 4 cylinder bike :)

Jump it, should be fine. A lot of people say never to jump from a running car... Don't know how true that is but frankly, there's hardly a car battery in the world that won't start a bike without the engien running so why worry?

The worst you're likely to do is kill your battery, which is likely already dead anyway  Do you own a multimeter?

Get a good battery a OEM one is worth the money!

A cheap £20 sprint is useless, my friends Fazer ruined it in a year he's since changed to a Yamaha one and has no probs, and my cheapskate dealer put a Sprint cheapo in mine after some warrenty work I discovered the other day.

Mines OK as My bike is always plugged into a Optimate, but if you have no charger get a good battery will let you down a lot less.

Rather worrying thread as I don't use my bike much over the winter but so far the battery has survived.

My bike was new in August though. Assuming the battery has been on your bike since new, how old is the bike? I could understand if the battery was 2 or 3 years old...

I've only been using the bike for short journeys the last couple of weeks. Yesterday the battery didn't have enough charge to start her up. luckly my housemate had a charger cos I've tried bump starting the sv before and it is bloody hard work if you the one pushing.

is your man. I've just put one in mine, so too soon to see how well it holds up, but it should be OK, since it's also used in the NTV650. That's £33 all in, next day delivery. I thought that I'd pass on Bristol Batteries quote of £74 for a propper YT12.

Mines a bugger to start when its been stood a while, I normally manage it before I flatten the battery though.

I going to bang in some new plugs and a new air filter very soon to see if this makes starting any better.

I'ev just ordered one of the higher output Yuasas, much higher cold cranking speed (so they spin the starter harder, basically, should be good for cold starts). Cost me, I think, £42 + VAT. I'll report back once I have it in hand.

Not sure which model you have but if its a K3 you can fit a 12amp hour battery you do need to remove the rubber under the riders seat not sure if this is true for the K4s on though.
