VERY dissapointed. I used to go every year when i was under 10 years of age. It was always a great show, loads of bikes, few trade stands etc...

WEnt there on saturday for the first time in about 14-15 years. Gutted to say the least. Was looking foward to seeing a vast array of MotoGP bikes, WSB, BSB etc.. I found a couple of BSBikes, one WSB on the Suzuki stand, NO moto GP bikes (The only thing i really wanted to see!). Very limited dealer/bike show stands (must have been aobut 100-150 bikes in the whole show).

Far to many trade stands. Not enough bikes. Wasn't all bad as I got some new leather trousers and we got the gf some new boots, but all in all, pretty gutted.

Arrived at 1pm, was out the door by 2.30pm.

Hope the NEC show later in the year will be better than that. :(

If you want to see bikes you have to go to NEC these days (or abroad) - Ally Pally really is for 'bits & pieces'

The NEC show has been crap for the last two years running IMHO :!:

Didn't even bother with the NEC show this year, its been getting less and less impressive.

I did go to the Ally Pally but only as I wanted to see the new Starcom Advance (which I bought there). I shall not go to either again unless they really change the commitment from the manufacturers, Honda did not show up this year, I predict that, if MCN don't get their act together, in two years there will be none of the manufacturers represented.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. You want Bikes, you go to the NEC, you want clothing/accessories, you go to the AllyPally. End off.

One large national show at Earls Court, in the Spring. That would work....

I think I'd like the Ally Pally... The shopping's all I go to the Scottish show for. The immensely satisfying glow of getting 50p off a titanium axle nut ;)

Bit harsh isn't it?

If you re-read the post, i did say i used to go to the show every year when i was younger, and it was always FULL of bikes. In fact, last i was there my old man had his race bike up for sale in the hall on the left as you walked down the 50 years corridor into the main hall. That was full loaded with bikes, yet i think i counted about 10 in there this year. The other space was packed with trade stands.

And now the "live stage" was pushed out the back, no longer under the organ in the main hall.

IMO, im just saying it was a huge dissapointment and has severly gone downhill.

I haven't been going very long at all, just to the last couple NEC shows and last year's Ally Pally. I can't comment on how it used to be, but these days it does seem to be how Viney says. You want bikes you go to NEC, if you want to pick up a bargain on bike gear you go to Ally Pally. Personally, I've loved both NEC shows but the Ally Pally show didn't do much for me.

there was a slight lack of bikes there, but a lot of kit, got me new boots, and all sorts of stuff.

to be honest, its good every year.

in the last few years I've been to the NEC, the ally pally and the May BMF. Out of the lot of them, the NEC is the place for new shiny things, taking pictures etc. with the manfacturers bringing their own gear rather then relying on the dealers.

The ally pally is more about the bits shopping, with a few quid being left at the Hagon and Fuel stands last week

The BMF seems to be a mixed bunch, I end up buying kit there rather then anything else, part bits shop, part big excuse to have a natter and part trade fair.

And of interest, every year for the 10 years, all I have heard about the most recent show is that it wasn't as good as it used to be, be that NEC or BMF.

Sad i know but i quite enjoyed the Ally Pally show, but maybe thats because i was looking for new boots and a helmet.
IMHO there were much better 'deals' to be found than at the NEC.

But I remember when it was the much better Racing and Sports motor cycle show with loads of WSB and 500 GP bikes and quite a few bikes for sale too.

Ally Pally used to be called "The Road Racing And Superbike Show"That's why it used to have lots of race bikes there.Mcn run it now so it's just another arm of the Emap corporate razzmatazz.Shame really as it used to be a unique event.

I enjoyed both the NEC and Ally Pally and got good bargains at both and had a good day out with the lads.

wrong,

if you want the Nec and Ally pally combined, into one massive show goto the BMF, not only is everything alot cheaper its massive with everything you could ever want for your bike, also you can go for the day or the weekend and yes it probally would take you a weekend to do it all
