I need to front my frustrations as I'm going mad.
Long story short, I applied for a job and sat the interview on Friday. They told me they'd let me know by Monday. I am sat pulling out my hair but hopes are fast fading as time goes along. Can it take this long to contact me.
This will be the third interview I've sat this month where I've been told I'll find out either way on the Monday and then they chicken out and tell me I've not got it by letter on the Friday.
Should I be patient or stop being naive and move on????
Was it direct or agency? If the later, give them a call.

No it was from a paper advert.
Trouble is I really want the job as it would be more money, more prospects and I can share travelling expenses with my missus who works at the same firm.

Dan,
Maybe try this one day...your bank balance is looking rather sparse but the deal set to complete in 10 days or so before Christmas, you know will put things right big time! A cushion that would carry you threw nicely for a couple of months.
Then in the early hours of the day when the transaction was to complete and so trigger your nice payment, your client sends you an email to inform you of his change of heart!!!!! :?

Peter, If I get this job, I'll be your best loyal client ever, who won't let you down! 8)
So if you could send me a list of villa's on the market for 50p, I'd be most grateful!
Sorry to hear about that.

Rang them up and finally got hold of the HR Manager.
I didn't get the job. I asked for some feedback and they said my interview was excellent, I gave all the right answers, I was articulate and clear and gave a positive impression of myself........But.............. the girl who got the job had more experience.
Gutted! How am I supposed to improve myself now and how are you expected to have experience these days if they don't give you the break!
Feeling pretty fed up today. Still have another interview today and one on Thursday.
Gotta get a break sometime. :(

I'm sorry that you didn't get the job. If you interviewed that well, hopefully you shouldn't have too much trouble finding another one. Experience isn't everything in job-hunting. Enthusiasm can count almost as much. They were interviewing two guys here - one was older with experience but not much enthusiasm and the other was younger with less experience but very enthusiastic. They had a very hard time making their minds up. I didn't actually hear who was eventually offered the job though. It's not uncommon for interviewers to have to choose between two very good candidates and then it's just the luck of the draw. Better luck next time.

Know how you mean. I applied in May last year as Sales Negotiator for a major estate agents. got the first interview, sat it, was asked back for 2nd one. Sat that, and they said they'd call me before end of the week.
That day came and went, i chased them, they said they'd get back to me. After 2 weeks i put it up as a lost cause and moved on - landed a job where i am now.
2 months after sitting the second interview, i got a phone call - offering me the position - their excuse for taking so long? " a company restructure"
I declined their offer. But a month after that, another branch of the same company called me directed, and offered me the same position at their branch - id been head hunted. I declined that offer too - my reason - that without any disrespect, any organisation that cant let a prospective employee know that they are having a restructure and that it may take some time to get back to them, cant be worth working for.
If thats how they treat potential employees, how do they treat clients?
8)
Dan, id chase them bro. Give them a little call seeing if they have heard anything yet - and remember - if you DONT get the position, ask for some feedback so you know what to improve on for next time around.
EDIT: Sorry dude, just read further down and heard you didnt get the job. Gutted for ya buddy. Dont worry too much about it, theres plenty of decent jobs around at the moment, just gotta search for them. Speak to a few Specialist Agencies - they're your best bet for permenant positions.
Good Luck fella.
For what it's worth, when job hunting, I go for every single position I think I can remotely have any chance doing the job. Regardless of experience. I try to pick things out in the job description and relate them in whatever way I can to previous jobs that I have done.
Even if you don't get the job it will give you more experience of being interviewed that you can learn from and apply to the next interview to make it a better one.
If they say that they will contact you on a particular date and have not responded by midday on that day, then I would phone them and ask them direct if I had been successful or not.
My reasoning for this, is if they were deliberating between maybe two or three candidates, your phone call could possible show them that you are keen to get the job also it would put your name at the top of their minds once again.
Lastly, if I were not going to get the job, I would want to know as soon as possible so that I can brush it to the side and concentrate on the next one.
These are some of the guide lines that I follow myself. Not saying that they are for you, but they have served me well in the past and allowed me to diversify into many different trades.

Ill second that Ape.
Also, a little tip i learned, is that its sometimes useful to submit your CV with a little passport sized photo of you attached to the top. The basis being, that they will remember faces more than they will remember CV's.
When your in for interview, they can tie your face up to the CV afterwards when they are making decisions. Plus it makes the CV look real smart too.
