What 'route' have you taken to end up with you current bike ?
Mine is a as follows :-
Honda CB100N - horrible, but got me around
Suzuki TS125X - at the time it was a real 'giggle' machine
Suzuki 600 Bandit - my intro to world of 'big' bikes
Honda VFR 800i (current) - what can I say, THE BEST ALL ROUNDER IN THE WORLD. . . EVER !! :D
Suzuki 1200 Bandit - ('proper' shape) another bike I wish I had room for now !!
KTM 640 LC4 - fun to play around with but dreadful build quality, sold it after 8 months
Suzuki SV1000N (current) - :D :D 8) 8)

Commuted on a push bike for years (7 or so), then
Yamaha SR250 Classic for 4 months (a.k.a. "the horrible thing"), then
Suzuki SV650S '99, bought in May '05 with less than 8k miles on the clocks :D

Honda CG125 - lovely bike to start on and learn what it feels like to be truely scared while taking wet mountain roads at 60mph (since done them at 80mph on the SV with no issues) Sold for a profit, even after cost of MOT etc.
Kwak GPZ500S - A surprisingly good bike. Let down by build quality. I learnt how many stupid things you can do with a vaguely powerful bike. I also learnt how to get out of some of the situations you can get yourself into. Still got it but it's being broken for spares.
Suzuki GSX600F - Not a bad bike, actually. Mine had some issues with air leaks that I couldn't get to the bottom of and didn't have the money to get a garage to sort out. Sold it for what I paid after a couple of months.
Suzuki SV650S - Finally got myself a decent bike and have loved it ever since. It's got faster as time has gone on.
I'm now finding it to be a bit slow on some of my favourite roads, but I can't say I always ride it at 100% of it's capabilities, so I'll keep it for a bit yet.
Honda MTX50 - At the tender age of 16 years old and against my mums wishes. Sold it when i passed my car licence
Peugeot Speedfight 100 - Broght this to commute to and from london back in 1997
Suzukisv650 - Brought this december 2000
Still got it
Seriously....
PY80 - Was about 8 years old lol
Piaggio Hexagon 125cc Scooter - About 30,000 miles on a single cyclinder engine, sold it working fine too...
Gilera Runner 200cc - 16,500 odd miles, currently for sale for silly money in this forum.
Suzuki SV650S - Done so far about 6000-7000 miles.
Next, who knows, im already "dreaming" though.
I was brought up to gradually build your way up. Mainly though, i needed a reliable commuter machine and at 18/19, the scooter was the cheapest easiest option.

Honda Camino - too embarrasing to ride
Honda Px50 - A bit more like it
Honda MBX80 with powerpipe - a mini beast
Honda MBX125- my first prang + broken leg!
Suzuki TS250 - rear wheel was always trying to come 'round under power
Suzuki GSX400F - nearest I came to LC style wizz-bangerie - excellent 4-stroke screamer!!
SV650S - just wish I could get used to modern bike riding requirements
Not included all the bikes I borrowed off my Dad...the list would be HOOOOGE

1st bike - very old W-reg suzuki GSX250 in silver. Had it for about 3 years I think. It spent a lot of time on the floor but I learnt a lot and went loads of places on it. Ace bike :)
2nd bike - Old Y-reg Yamaha 350YPVS in red, white and blue. This was the right price at the right time so I bought it but it had problems so I got rid quickly.
3rd bike - F-reg Kawasaki GPZ500S in matt black. I had this for about 5 years I think and went all round Scotland on it one year. Sold it to a mate for £200 with well over 100,000 miles on it and it was still going years after that
4th bike - N-reg red naked bandit. One of the best bikes I have ever had. I loved this bike and will always regret selling it
5th bike - I've still got this one - a G-reg yamaha FZX750 in stunning pink and black  It's been slightly modified so I'm quite attached to it somehow so can't bear to sell it even though it takes up space in the garage
6th bike - I sold the bandit to buy a blue 2001 SV650S. I kept it a couple of years and never really got on with it to be honest. I liked it but it wasn't right for me somehow, so I sold it and bought...
7th bike - a 2002 Cagiva raptor 1000, in red. This is the best bike I have ever owned - stunning looks, fun, low seat height and sounds ace. I wanted one for years but could never afford the insurance but now I have one and I wouldn't get rid for anything 8)

Very short history for me... A Yammy Virago XV125, which was a lovely bike when it wasn't broken down. And then the SV.
Next bike? Depends. If the SV was stolen or destroyed tomorrow, I'd buy another carbed SV. But if it lives its natural lifespan out and gets converted to a toy, which is the plan, I'd probably look at a Falco or, depending on what it was for, maybe a Deuville.

1st - CB125 Superdream - twin carbs on a 125! Written off when pedestrian walked out in front of me. It was the cheapest 2nd hand bike I could find and even then I couldn't really afford it.
2nd - Suzuki Intruder 750 - What can I say? I was into the cruiser thing then.
3rd - Harley Davidson Dyna Low Rider 1340cc - As above, but the 'real thing'. Bought new during the Internet boom and sold last year.
4th - Ducati ST2 (944cc) - Saw a low-mileage one and bought it as a second bike. It quickly became 1st bike as it was more fun than the Harley. Great when it worked but eventually spent more time broken down than actually working.
5th - SV650 - Bought new as a cheapish replacement for the ST2. Was stolen after about a year.
6th - Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (current) - I sold the Harley and used the cash + the insurance payout on the SV to buy this new last year. I just *HAD* to have one.

Ok,
Started a few years back, aged 16 with a Suzuki Katana 50cc sit and screw. Was an alright machine, good for 35mph restricted, and handled well.
Sold that and upgraded to a Gilera DNA 125 4stroke sit and screw, but styled like a motorbike (altogether now "ohhhhhh" ). Had that for about 18 months, before flogging it.
Then i did my restricted test, and purchased my first "real" bike.
Silver, SV650S K2 with 6000miles on the clock for £3400 sold it 11 months later (was under the illusion that i didnt really need a motorbike, and that the money could be used to clear my rapidly increasing credit card balance). Sold it for 2400 with 37000miles on the clock.
A month after selling it, i was climbing the walls as it was a WONDERFUL summer.
I bought a ZXR400 H1 from Ebay for £1100. Picked it up from a guy near spalding ( i had been down to check it over before hand and it appeared alright). Got 10 miles up the road.. and
BANG!!!! Oil cooler exploded, urinating oil everywhere. Managed to keep on the bike and stopped urgently. recovered the bike to a friends house, and its stayed there ever since! Reason for this being that when i went into the local import dealer to buy some parts i fell in love straight away with a 1999 registered CBR400RR NC29 which was right by the door. The sales man saw me drooling, he came out, started it up (had an ART can on) and that was it. I asked if he did finance, he did, i signed that day! Rode away the next day. Bike was up for £3500 throw in the finance and that bike cost me £5000 almost.
But i wouldnt have it any other way.
It was a DREAM!
Sold it in July last year after getting caught speeding too many times..
The ZXR remains in my mates shed. If i can twist my dads arm to let him keep it in his garage, ill get it up there, and start working on it - by the time i get my license back in *COUGH* three years *COUGH*it should be nicely done up and ready to roll.
8)
In my time ive also ridden though:
Bandit 600
Bandit 1200
ZZR1100 (180mph indicated) down M1 "just to see what it'll do mister"
Firestorm
ZX7R
CBR600RR
Pegaso 650 (commonly known as the pigs ar$ehole due to its questionable handling)
Varadaro 125 and 1000
They were all bikes of my friends, which i was insured to ride.
Garelli 80 cc - toured Europe on it!!! :D
Moto Guzzi Imola 350cc. Lovely looking bike and brilliant when it ran, but jeez talk about active ownership. Eventually self destructed spectacularly.
Moto Guzzi California: the tourer, good bike but oh so much maintenance
Moto Guzzi California: the later version: gave up on Guzzis at this point
Honda Deauville - much derided but a fantastic distance bike 54,000 miles and wrote it off
Suzuki SV650s - the love affair continues

Started @16 with a Speedfight 50. It really was a fight to get any sort of speed out of the thing, but an indicated 34mph will live in my memory forever.
Year later got the TZR125L and learnt how to crash and some spanner skills on it. Power Valved it and it felt like a rocket. Looking back now must of been nuts to ride it how I did, you had to give a weeks notice in writing to stop. Still went through a pair of boots by leaning it!
At 18 I got the CBR400RR NC23. It was stunning once the ristricors were out but the insurance was cripiling. Handled like a dream and I learnt knee down on it. Was never the same after the engine poped (not my fault) and is missing most of the plastics now, though they can be found on the M32 where they fell off!
Then got the SV650S when I was 19ish. V-Twin power is great. 3 engines later I still have it and I'm still having fun, wouldn't give it up for anything.
Looking to get a R7 in a couple of years after I finish Uni and get my bikes to how I want them...
1st bike - GS500F - bought age 30
Erm...
The End.
A fascinating tour through the annals of my biking history, I think you'll agree.
(Oh, but am looking to trade-up once I can sell mine in the spring... thinking about probably an SV650S...)

In the interest of brevity, I've listed my bikes before and anyone that interested can do a search.
Never owned a Harley, BMW, cruiser or out and out tourer (although did use a Pan for work for six months).
Break in riding, well I’ve managed a week before but that was extreme!
Never been without at least one bike and most of the time several.
Started riding in 75 (on the road anyway) and haven't stopped yet, over a million miles covered and still racking them up.
Either owned; worked on or ridden a fair amount of the mainstream stuff and a Good % of the exotica as well., particular passion for the old “flat tankers” but as Sid Squid would say “ wouldn’t do anything as silly as buying one”.
Cheers Mark.

Mark, pretty similar here - passed when I was a boy of 35 (now 38 ), bought a SV650SK3 brand new (June 2003), did 7000 miles or so, sold it and bought a GSXR 600 May 04 - now covered a total of over 20,000 miles all told. Oh, hang on, that's not the same at all  I probably only covered your biking record up to 1976!

Mines dull
SV650SK3, first bike after I passed test (ordered before) in Dec 03.
Sold it Dec-ish 04.
Interlude, bikes I've spent time on...
During that year played with a DR200 for a few days in Corfu.
Transalp for a week in Crete...that is such a good bike for rougher roads, lapped everything up and made me think trail riding was easy .
CRM250 in Thailand, my very most favourite one and I wish I could afford one for a bit of fun.
R1200GS in blue since march 05...my god, nearly a year now! Believe the hype.
R1200GS black since this winter....ok, its the same bike but what a difference a colour change makes
What next? Fancied a KTM990 Adventure but put off by reliability and its not realistically going to take me anywhere I can get from here in 2 weeks hols the GS won't. Would be change for sake of change. If I could get the distance thing out of my system the Ducati Hypermotard..no question 8)
Easy one this
1. BSA bantam d14/4
2. honda cb 250
3. honda cb 550/4
4. BSA A65T OIF
5. BLUE SV650S K5( BEST ONE TO DATE)

Yamaha SR125 - great fun and a brilliant learner bike.
Kawasaki ER5 - did the job, alright and pretty easy to get on with, awful finish, no character.
SV#1 - great fun but restricted and killed by random cager a week before I was due to derestrict it, so got...
SV#2 - even more fun
Then again, I popped in to my local Suzi/Yamaha dealer this evening to pick up a part and laid eyes on the new R6. Not the so-so red and white one they had in there for ages though... the black one... I'm in love, now I need to start saving my pennies...

1978 FS1E
1979 RD250 (for 2 weeks then it was written off....)
Back into bikes in 2002... Did my DAS and got my '01 SVS - 17k miles and 13 months later.......
'01 Aprilia Falco - I just wanted one... Never really got what I wanted from it, and it was a bit unreliable on cold mornings, so I traded it for........
'04 GSXR600 (first week they came out). Wonderful bike which I still miss. It did a lot of miles but it was so reliable and sounded so good...
July last year I got my 'Blade. So practical yet still that sportsbike feeling. Loads of power, and I personally think the 954 is one of the best looking bikes ever built.
And I should pick up my SV next week... So I'll have gone full circle but have 2 bikes in the garage.

Kwak W650

I've always said that I don't want to die without owning a Triumph, so that'll be on the agenda sometime in the future - probably the Thruxton.

Ooh Mr.Jimbo..I do apologise the SV was among many that I failed to include! You know I really enjoyed my brief affair with my K3 and would consider one again should my requirements change. 8)

Wouldn't swap mine for the world - I got my lad (9) some kit & he comes on the back now :D
Honda CR50 when i was 9
Then a YZ125 when i was 13, kept that until i got my 1st road bike.
Which was a trusty CG when i was 17, lovely bike to learn road riding on, and so light to pick up when you fall off.
Then almost straight away on my 18th came the SV.
Then just after my 19th birthday, along came an SV with more than double the power, when my restrcitors came off.
Then she was sadly stolen on the back end of last year, hopefully the insurance money will come through soon, but for my now im on a (not so) trusty Honda Bros 400
