Hi,

First time out on my sv650 curvy and i have noticed that on the throttle for a few seconds it will stutter (feels like it does when you do a clutchless gear change) for 1/4 second before it carries on pulling, then it does it again a bit higher up the rev range.

It has not been ridden for months, what could it be? it is not at the same rpm each time and does not happen every time, moisture issue that will go once i ride it for long enough??

please advise as I have a track day tomorrow!!!

WOOHOO!!!

Possibly carb icing or a bit of moisture in the tank. Ride it for a bit to get a better diagnosis

If you cant empty the tank, ride it a bit to use it up and stick some Wynns dry fuel in and a fresh tank of petrol.

what bike did you have before? Ive found the SV doesn't pull I like I expected from very low revs (2-3k) - stutters a bit if you really open the throttle.

Generally, it rides & accelerates much better if I keep it around 4k or higher

Just sounds like the engine being bogged down. Similer happens when the engine is cold and you open the throttle too much it nearly dies.

To me, it sounds like he's already moving so that shouldnt be an issue

Sounds like stale fuel to me - drain the tank & refill with fresh fuel.

Good luck

thanks peeps!

I have another sv (k4) and a cbr 400rr so I am confident it is not how the power kicks in, it was around the 6-8 grand mark it would stutter.

will try what you have said.

If it was 5-6 I'd say it was a sign of leanness- undersized main jets lean out the top of the needle circuit. But that's usually more evident when you cruise and snap the throttle, not when you're rolling on.

I had a similar problem. Drain the carbs a little, and see how it goes. It sounds like you have a little water in the bottom of the float bowls, and is restricting fuel through the jets. It cured it for me. I had to take the airbox out to do it, but if you're known to your local garage, they should do it for you without charge, and without even lifting the tank (if they're anything like the place I use.)
