having not used the bike for a few months, i notice the front brake pad is scraping on the disc. Anything to worry about? Is this considered to be binding on? Any remedial works required?

A good check is to see if one of your disks is warmer (even hot!) than the other after a shortish ride. This is will at least indicate if is just on one side ...

What is it like when you free wheel it, say when you move it a few yards by hand? If it is hard work, then it is likely, as you suspect, that your brakes are binding.

Could well be just a build up of rust on the discs.

If I dont use mine for a few weeks it is hard to push but by the time I get back from a ride its fine again.

My bike is only 6 months old and hasn't been used in the salt and rarely in the rain so I doubt they are seizing.

I can usually see little faint rust spots on the discs though when its like that.

I get this also, bike is stored under a car port & covered but still get a slight build up on the discs, as has been said a short ride soon cures it.

Toypop, out of interest how is the paint holding up on your discs, mine is rusting like a bugger but like yours it hardly seen the rain.

Paint on the discs?

Not sure what you mean?

Haven't noticed any of my paint anywhere having problems. Just a few washers underneath rusting and the starter motor got a tiny bit of salt on it and is now discoloured.

Yeah my disks rust a bit under the bike barn due to the condensation. They are very rust resistent though compared to car discs.

Could be a sticky caliper. However, the pads should touch the disc anyhoo when not applied. If there is any dirt in there, this will not help. If you can lift the front wheel up somehow(You can get a strong mate to lift it up on the side stand) and spin the front wheel. If its free, then nothing to worry about!!

Sorry should have said "the black painted bit in the centre of the discs is rusting". :)

They don't appear to be rusting. But its a bit dusky out now so I couldnt see clearly but I hadn't noticed anything before.

That's how mine started, and it ended up in a highside, and a suspected fractured knee which hurt like ****. Overhall them mate, I wouldn't want what I went through to happen to anyone else.
