Fit onto an SV ??? It's a braced TL1000R swingarm with spindle + torque arm. I'm tempted to switch to a braced swingarm because i prefer the look but i'm not after spending massive amounts.
So...does anybody know if and just importantly how easily it'll go in ??
Cheers

Not easily... TLs had the door closer damper, SVs need a traditional shock linkage.

Yes, it'll fit fine. You'll need to:
1) Modify the frame, as the TLR arm is wider than the SV, or you could cut the swingarm in half crossways, narrow it a bit and weld it back together, don't forget to cut down the bearing spacers. On the plus side, IIRC, the spindles are the same diameter so you can probably re-use the bearings. Result!
2) The TLR linkage lugs are the top of the 'arm you'll need to fabricate and weld some new ones on underneath.
Bob's your dad's brother, dead easy, send us some pics when you're done.

You make it sound so easy! If I get one, will you give me a hand? ;)

hat'll be a no then
What readily available (i.e. not a custom) braced arm would go in there then ????
AFAIK, none. However give one of the reputable fabricators a ring and you'll see that bracing a curvy swingarm is straightforward and cheap compared to conversion.
This is because the SV is a bit different to most swingarms in that the shock is offset to the left to allow the exhaust downtube in the gap too.

If I'd know it was that easy, I'd have done it on mine

Yup. It's depressing how near to perfect a GSXR SRAD swingarm is... Same (or nearly the same) width at the frame, very similiar length (slightly shorter, but the longest adjustment is in the middle of the SV's), modifiable linkage mount... But the shock would go right through one of the arms.

Depends on what you call massive amounts

Have a search on the SVrider forum, look for Zoran's braced arm thread.
He got a stock SV arm braced to use in a tuned race SV (90bhp), but could detect no real difference when compared to stock in terms of flex.
It might look cool but I think this is a bit of overkill for road use. You could spend the same cash on a penske shock and really notice improvements.
If only I had that sort of cash to spare.

TBH though, most aftermarket swingarms look pretty odd on the SV... Big rectangular spars jar with the rest of the frame. I saw a pic on SV Rider of an SV with a Sondon single sider a while back 8) Gorgeous.

Great, you can whack a TL one in, is it lighter? Is there a point?

Yes, it looks nicer and takes a wider wheel, which also looks nicer. Though the whole thing of having to completely dissect your bike to do it is probably a little offputting ;)

Isn't this whole thing circular, as in it all goes back to " to get to there, I wouldn't start from here"
Cheers Mark.

Just a little... It'd be easier to buy a TL and have it restricted ;)
1) Buy TL
2) Unplug front spark plug, or if feeling technical disconnect front injector's fuel feed

I think you could race it in supermonos too.
(when I got my scrap engine with its spun rear bearing, I briefly considered removing the entire rod and piston, fitting a spacer where that bearing was, removing the rear barrel and head, and blanking the whole piston off... You never know when a spare engine could come in handy, even when it's a 325. But then common sense abruptly struck ;))

Sometimes when certain mods are suggested I can sense my lips moving involuntarily..when I listen closer the words come as ....but why? :?

....but why? :?
because you can.
It's not about making everybody else like the bike, it's about making it better for the owner. If that means spending many hours converting an overweight component to fit then so be it.

That too, but it's still a reason, albeit a fairly weak one.

Besides the disect it etc.... the cylinder off set is the opposite on the TL to the SV, rear to the left on the TL, rear to the right on the SV, so my mech told me and it cerainly appears to be the case, just incase anyone is thinking of any other TL/SV swaps.

You have no idea how long it took me to find this using SV Rider's fearsomely terrible search engine ;) Search for "Spondon", 3 hits. Search for "Spondon" posted by me, 30 hits. That's a little odd...

Oh, that's just too gorgeous. I'm just a teeny bit in need of that whole bike.
SVrider does have some nice conversions. That SV/R1/CBR6RR/ZX6RR/R6 in black was such a thing of beauty.

The SVR6 doesn't quite work IMO... Or I'd have probably copied it ;) The headlight sits a little too high, so it gives the bike a slight pointing-up look when what it really wants to do is be hunched and pointy-down. What a piece of work though, deservedly an SV Rider SV of the Month.
