Following on from other discussions we've had, I read this on the Times Online website earlier - thought you might find it rather amusing:

The latest public figure to stand accused of defiling the Prophet Mohamed is not some Danish cartoonist, or French newspaper editor, but a hapless British Page 3 girl called Emma B.

Yesterday, the erotic retailer Ann Summers unveiled Miss B as the "face" of its new range of products.

Not 24 hours later, she finds herself on the front line of Islamic protest after Muslim leaders discovered that the range includes a new blow-up doll, called "Mustafa Shag".

Unfortunately, Mustafa was one of the names given to the Prophet Mohamed. Bestowing it upon, in the words of its catalogue, "an inflatable escort for your hen-night adventures" is considered highly offensive.

The Manchester Central Mosque has already written to the firm, calling on it to withdraw the product.

Bad timing definitely, but surely it's not that outrageous? Hopefully no-one will be offended by this post.

This is the United Kingdom. We are, last time I checked, a Christian nation. When in Rome do as the Romans if not, then maybe don't go.

I'm sorry if this offends people, but if other cultures want to live here, then integrate don't separate.

My nan may be offended by what's in the Ann Summers catalogue, that's why she wouldn't read it....

We're really not, statistically we're an atheist nation. There's now more practicing orthodox muslims in teh UK than there are Church of England or RC. The definition of "practicing" is attends a place of worship at least once per month, or prays at least once a week.

Maybe that's my point....

What is? That christians are now a minority in the UK? That's not because we're overrun with immigrants or whatever, it's because Christian worship's dropped like a stone.

Well I'm of no faith, so I'd appreciate it if no-one says anything against nothingness as it's not actually possible to offend me, which isn't quite fair really is it?

I've been saying this for a while now.

Religion will be the death of us all eventually. The sooner practicing any religion is outlawed worldwide the sooner we will learn to get on with life instead of what you may wish to believe will happen after it. What really do we gain from it.

Faith? A totally unnecessary concept.
Respect is the only thing you need to practice.

As for all the fuss and protesting about a cartoon. These people should think themselves lucky they live here and can practice whatever they like without oppression. Flip the situation on it's head. How long do you think any of us would survive if we went to Iraq and held up a banner saying 'Stop public beheading of British civillians'*. 5 minutes?

*or anyone else.

ps. spot on with the python sketch, exactly what I was thinking while i read the first post.

If any of this offends then tough. Mindless killing in the name of someone who (quite probably) existed a thousand years ago really offends me.

This is all so stupid, so pointless. The protests and all the rest of it I mean, not the thread.

We know a muslim family and they are really nice people, they're horrified by all the excesses and so on. They just want to get on with their lives, sendf their kids to school, pay the mortgage and generally be normal, they don't want any special treatment because they're balck and/or muslim, nor do they want anyone to pussyfoot around in case they cause offence.

As ever, its the few that spoil things for everyone else.

What happened to tolerance? or does that only work one way?

Remember there were good men who did good things, and bad men who did bad things, it took religion to make good men do bad things

no wonder I'm a non-believer.
