View Full Version : Favourite Bike Logo/Decal
Peter Henry

A very personal subject of course and a situation where you can't be judged as being wrong! What is your favourite bike logo or decal? It could be any manufacturer's scheme? Perhaps just one particular details lifted from an otherwise overall scheme that did not really impress you.
The one I show just captures the romance, glamour and speed that to me motorcycling is about. Let's see yours.....

Vincent - Simply because they are the greatest British bike builders & arguably the company that invented 'The Superbike' (Black Shadow)
MTT - Just because they built the most outrageous bike ever - the Y2K Gas Turbine bike

No, in fairness, I love the bike to bits (not in bits though ) its just the back-up & dealer that are p155ing me off really :!:
I think the MV logo as posted already by Peter is probably my fave, I also like the old style Ducati logo (like on the new Sport Classic) incredibly simple, but very stylish and elegant.
I also like this one as well

But Mr Henry, there is only one logo you NEED on your bike.........
It is known by even those who have no real interests in bikes, and is revered the world over...........

I like the Suzuki logo, when done right... Very bold and simple. There was a bike in Stretfighters a while back, a GSX1100 cafe racer. Whole bike was done in black and white, with the big S painted on the tank in black. Lovely.
But then, I'm also a bit partial to the ludicrously gaudy Hayabusa logo, so what do I know? I'm deliberately not putting anything on my bike because clearly my taste is flawed ;)

Ah but Jelster you miss the point wildly...the two words in the minds of the folks out there work wonderfully together....the word you were reluctant to come up with rather than "remind" was that Ducati is SYNONYMOUS with performance. Denial is a terrible thing Steve.

Scoobs.....Far from it mate. I always find it particularly interesting when people have to cast doubt on other makes of bike. Jelster has adopted an approach that I would never use, but if it suits him then that is fine by me.
I own a particular make of motorcycle that I am actually very pleased with, what others think of me or my bike, in reality matters so little not to register.

OK, here's one everyone will know
http://www.bureaunet.com/FTP/Rictus/goldstar.jpg
But stuff you may not?
A sign of performance in it's day (100 mph lap).
Originally won by Wal Handley, by doing a lap (within a race) of over 107mph at Brooklands in 1937 on a tuned Empire Star, not until 1949 did BSA produce a road 500cc "Gold Star" the B32GS, and that could only do 96mph
Still, one of the icons of logos.

I feel I would like to add some more to this excellent thread, if only to remind certain young pups that there are motorcycles other than Fireblades and R1s....
http://server2.uploadit.org/files/Boccadillo-Scott.jpg
Apart from the fact that it was built in YORKSHIRE (sorry Tim) the area that also brought you the Bradford and Jowett motor cars, the Scott was particularly famous for its contribution to onomatopoeia....it was the original "yowling" two-stroke.
http://server3.uploadit.org/files/Boccadillo-Rovin.jpg
This famous French make was produced in a particularly unpleasant equine-like colour of grey-brown. Given its unreliability, it was no wonder that it soon became known as the Dun Rovin.
http://server2.uploadit.org/files/Boccadillo-calthorpe.jpg
Another famous make to use colour in its model name, ie the Ivory Calthorpe, this make owes much to Spagthorpe - and it has been suggested that it was indeed a licence built version of the latter, built in Calbost in Ross-shire.

Sorry, it could just be me,I just don't get it? but I've seen this over the passed few years, on hats, T shirts, stickers that sort of thing, and it just strikes me as funny.
NO FEAR, fear is what you overcome to achieve something, it's natural, if you don't have it you blindly charge into things without the benefit of judgment, copying others without the built skills; relying on luck (which sometimes works) up until the point it all goes pear shaped.
After the hospital stay, you either gain a health respect for it (fear, even to a lesser degree) or do the same thing all over again.
Always wondered why people would walk about advertising their stupidity?
(I've got a "no fear" hat, one of the kids brought me, but I don't think it's cool, in fact it's woolly and keep my head warm , thanks)
in short
FEAR + ACHIEVEMENT = COURAGE
NO FEAR + ACHIEVEMENT = LUCK
NO FEAR + DISASTER = STUPIDITY
As I said perhaps it's just me?
Cheers Mark.

Hi all,
Don't know if I mentioned this before, but decals for the SV are being sorted as we type. When finished they'll pretty much look like the wrap that has been posted by sythree (Daytona - with the Union flag on it).
The FULL nose cone and rear (excluding tank at the moment) have been shaped and cut, and at the moment I am looking at different designs.
Once the designs have been done, I will post on here if anyone is interested.
If anyone is interested in a specific design, please let me know.
Cheers
