View Full Version : Scottoiler/engine vaccum query

Hi Folks,

Following my recent decision to buy a lube tube to replace my removed HCR, my Scottoiler is off the bike for a week, whilst the lube tube is shipped. This leaves the black vaccum tube and oil conduit (clear piping) unattached to anything (think I'll just cable tie them under the seat). I can't just put the standard scottoiler in place, as I have nothing to plug the refilling/HCR syphon hole with, so there wouldn't be a vacuum, hence no benefit.

My question is;

Will running the engine (using the bike for probably around 200 or so miles) do any damage/have any adverse effects, if the vaccum is not "plugged" in some way. IE, if I just leave the black tube trailing?

I've de-snorkelled the airbox whilst I was doing this, so didn't want to mistakenly hear/notice the difference of that and think that it was down to the engine playing up from the vacuum.

Thanks in advance.

Depending where you have taken the vaccum from, that part will not work with out blocking the black tube, example if you took the vaccum from the fuel tap feed, the diaphram won't open so the fuel tap won't pass juice :shock: , or if it's off the throttle body them it will act as an air leak.

I would suggest you take the far end of the black tube (furthest for engine) and melt the end over (last 1/4 inch or so), and then just cut it off when re-fitting. easy as that.

Cheers Mark.

Damn good idea Mark. The vacuum tube is plenty long enough for where the scottoiler is going to be relocated to so I'll do that. Many thanks, I owe you one.

Cheers,
