Anyone rate the Pipercross air filters and or know anyone that's used them. I have a CCC slip on and need a new filter. Was thinking this or the K & N. Everyone seems to rate the K & N but I know the Pipercross also have a good rep as a racing filter. How much of an issue would I have if I didnt do a rejet and or dyno.

I have a pipercross but can't relate it to being better or worse than a K'n'N, sorry.

If you're getting a can and filter then it's definitely worth doing jets and dyno to get the full potential as an upgrade. If it's for poise & noise then you can live without it.

Agree with Haggis... No point at all in fitting a filter if you don't plan to jet for it, especially if you have a can fitted. Chances are it'll run less well, and if the filter's good enough (ie, not K&N) you could run lean enough to have running problems and maybe even urn your exhaust valves, damage the pistons, etc. Bad.

Can't speak for the Pipercross, but the best one I've tried in terms of airflow is the BMC Race RS, as sold by JHS. Simply not sane to fit one to a bike without rejetting it, it'll hardly run above 6000rpm ;) (with a full system and tank spacers, I found that it ran badly up to 6000, then slowed down above that!) If you get one of those, the Factory Pro or JHS Racing jet kits designed around them are the way to go- the DJ one and the standard Factory Pro one are pretty useless for it, they don't go big enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. Was reading through Johns site on the hole process. As he's in the states was any of it much different to the UK bikes do you kow?

The main differences is that UK bikes come with slotted needles (so we don't shim- we try to move the clips and watch them ping off down the garden) and 16.5 (or is it 17.5? can't remember) pilot jets instead of 15s. US bikes with good filters and exhausts tend to need different pilots, ours don't.

Oh aye, and we don't need to drill the blanking hole over the mix screws, becauase we're trusted not to immolate ourselves if we pick up a screwdriver ;)
