So the camp site for AR06 has been selected. The question now is how many people are going to use this camp site? I have entered a poll (yes, another one  ).

The poll is for a head count. Please only enter when you have actually booked. The vote is simple, vote for the number of people you have booked in. If you have booked for more than 5 people then let me know before you vote and I will add the necessary to the poll.

The details of the camp site are as follows:

The Old Swan
Montford Bridge, Shrewsbury. 01743 850750
Open 7 days a week, lunchtime catering 12-2, evening catering 6-9.30, Sunday Carvery.
Also Bed and Breakfast
Function room

If people state when they have booked up and for which nights I will continuously edit this entry with the details. Hopefully this will mean that anyone looking for an update will only have to look at this first thread.

That's what it says on the business card. I didn't actually ask as camping was my main interest. Here's a scan of the card.

The B&Bs - I've never stayed in any of them but from the road Brimford (next door to the Admiral Rodney at Criggion - it's in Wales BTW, some locals speak Welsh as a first language) looks nice. Pub is biker friendly, it's small and it's so busy that sometimes in summer you can't get in the door. So you might have drunken bikers keeping you awake  Fitz Manor is beautiful. Really really nice. Fitz is about 2 miles from the Old Swan, Brimford a bit further, possibly 5 or 6.

I don't know the others so can't offer an opinion.

I was passing through Montford Bridge today, I was going to inspect a boundary dispute out the back of beyond so I had the digi with me. John gave me the idea last Monday of taking a few pics and posting em on here, so here are a few shots of the campsite and the pub. Do remember that (a) it's February and (b) it had just stopped snowing and the freezing rain had started and (c) it was very grey and overcast and (d) it was damn cold!!!!

The River Severn at Montford Bridge (looking upstream). The bridge you can see is the new A5 crossing the river, but it's far enough away not to be a problem:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a127/Sythree/DSC01425.jpg

The campsite from the (old) bridge. The pub is behind the bushes on the left. You can see the car park too - it's hard surfaced and huge:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a127/Sythree/DSC01424.jpg

The Old Swan pub:

The bridge from the campsite:

Looking across the field from just behind the pub, towards the river:

I just phoned the Old Swan to book for two nights and Denise said we are going to have to start paying deposits as there are so many of us. £5 each. Only problem is they have no facilities to take phone payments from us individually so I guess were are going to have to send cheques or possibly Paypal them to one person who then send the full amount to The Old Swan but then paypal will take fees.

She wants one of the organisers to call her tomorrow.

Maybe it would be best just to post our own cheques to the pub direct ?

I'll give her a call. I did mention what we were up to all those months ago when we popped in.

John

PS. Paypal take a huge chunk of commission. A cheque made payable to the pub and posted should be fine.

I guess that they're worried that if the event gets pulled then they will loose a lot of income. Not that it will.

Just spoke to Steve Parker at the Old Swan. He's a biker too, so he's not worried about hosting us from that score.

He shows about 13 bookings for both Fri and Sat so far. I explained our plans and he's fine with that as long as there is no raping, pillaging and raucous behaviour.

He'll probably put us in our own field.

The request for a deposit is just to cover them, in case the event gets cancelled, He's had his fingers burnt before with no-shows.

This is their website http://www.theoldswan.com/

Can you make cheques payable to the Bronze Swan ltd, as that's the holding company.

He's now got my phone number and name, so he should come to me directly if he has any further concerns or issues.

I was goin to ride the route today but changed my mind due to the fact the weather is pants, i mowed the lawn instead before the rain got here, i would really av liked to see the leafy trees and gently swishing river, but it'll have to wait. perhaps fri but the forecast is not good, heres hoping they are wrong.

He did seem a bit vague when I phoned up to book our pitch, Sure it'll work out alright though
