How do you find the meetings, rides, etc.? I'm thinking about joining.

I did the IDCAM (training and assessment thing) first of all - tey get all newcomers to do that. I've never got around to going on any of the rideouts, which is a shame as most of the guys are briliant riders - always seems to be something else that crops up on the day. They meet socially once a month at Hadlow Manor hotel but again, I've not been yet (joined back in September). It took until December to get assigned to an observer and I did my 3rd ride with him today - my best so far, very pleased :D
It comes down to making the time to meet with them and do IAM related stuff - if I had more time to spend I know I'd be doing better than I am, but as it is I'm making some good improvements.

Their website is at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/burlace/ if you want more info on dates and contact details

Whereabouts in Kent are you Jdubya? The LAM group alternate meetings at Beckenham (Kent) and Banstead (Surrey). I joined last Nov and am impressed. I did my fourth OR today.

I am based between Gravesend and Dartford just off the A2...so the Hadlow manor would be the closer meeting for me.

Whats teh score with this? Does it help with the insurance etc, or is it purley to help make you a better rider?

It can help with insurance costs, but I'm doing it to be a better rider.

Hi,

Are the IDCAM's held during the week or weekends / what is the cost ?

Regards
Andy

Me too - you'll end up faster, more in control (of your bike *and* the road around you) and so less likely to have an accident... the list goes on. Well worth it, though they can seem a bit dull and safety oriented until you actually get riding with them.

Right then...I bit the bullet and will be joined by the weekend then doing the IDCAM next weekend (11/03/06)
I'm really looking forward to it after speaking to some of the guys yesterday. Will also be doing the next machine control day. Sveedy, have you done the MC day yet? Sounds like the old cbt/das intensified?

Yay - I'm on that MCD too - 1 April. Missed the last one of 2005. I need that - I have no trouble at slow speeds on the road but when focusing on slow speed for any test it goes to pot, and I've never cracked the U-turn. Enjoy the IDCAM - got the classroom stuff in the morning (with some interesting info.) then after lunch you'll go out with an observer and they'll watch you. Best advice I can give is to ride as if they're not there, so they can see everything. They'd rather see you ride like a nutter (if that's how someone rides normally) so that they can give you real advice. I tried to ride how I thought I should ride for the first few times and they can spot it a mile off. They're a friendly bunch of guys... welcome!

Thanks very much...I'm looking forward to both those days. I have yet to properly master the SV under slow control...managed the ER 5 within a couple of hours  :D
