View Full Version : If (hypothetically) I ran a red light....

.....what are the likely outcomes?

My *ahem* friend was in the middle of Southampton and took a left turn at a traffic light controlled junction when there was no left turn allowed. As he did so he got flashed by the camera which checks for people jumping the red light.

What can my *ahem* friend expect to get in way of fine and points?

And before anyone says anything my *ahem* friend is already beating himself up for being such a ****......I mean what the hell was he doing in Southampton in the first place????

I seem to remember my brother in law getting done for the same offence ( thats jumping a red light, not being caught in Southampton ) and i think he got £60 and three points ( though not 100% sure on the three points )

Sorry i`m not much help

What a **** - sounds like you were caught by the anti-skate cameras that have just been installed

http://www.webundies.com/images/mn394w2mr.jpg

Which set of lights was it ?

You might be lucky - I think light jumpers normally take two pics - one as you cross on the red, and another just after to prove that you did jump it.

60 quid fine and 3 penalty points.. licence endorsed with a TS10 offence (slightly more severe than an SP30)

Which set of lights was it ? The left turn to take you to Saint Marys off the main Southampton road

TS10, 3 points sounds about right. What were you doing in a red light area?

Your only hope is that the micro number plate on your bike was illegible (or that there was no film in the camera (and it wasn't one of those direct digital jobbies)).

Scoobs, you're an **** #-o

Scoobs, you're an @rse #-o Yes!

It wasn't so much a red light jump, but an illegal left turn which got me flashed. Which one should I own up to? ie, which one has the smaller penalty?

Actually, if you do get a ticket, appeal and say you didn't run a light, because technically, you didn't. The position of your bike may well help your case.

(Of course, you didn't realise that you couldn't turn right did you ?)

I WAS coming to visit you. But getting flashed (oo'er missus) upset me so much I decided to go home. I'm a sensitive soul.

Ahh! All those times you had fun chastising me over my mistakes... funny that isnt it - irony has a funny sense of humour.

No seriously buddy, sorry to hear it. Nothing may yet come of it, so i would'nt worry too much about it until you hear about it.

Still, if its your first offence the insurance are unlikely to be too bothered with it - its not until you get above 6 points that it greatly affects your insurance.

Chin up buddy. 8)

Joe mate, I don't think I have ever made a single comment about any of your indiscretions. (as far as I can remember, which ain't very long TBH).

I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that I will be getting points.

Like I said before. Feck it.

Sorry bud, wasnt having a pop - just saw an opportunity to raise a cheap laugh at your expense. My apologies.

If you do get points 3 doesnt make that much difference, if at all any. Its not normally until you get above 6 that insurance companies start taking much attention of them.

Just spare a thought for me when i get my license back in a few years time. Ill have 3 speeding convictions resulting in 11 points, and a 6 week Short Disqualification Period, THEN my 3 year ban which ive just started. Can you imagine how much my insurance is going to be when i get it back????

Ive already started putting £100 a month aside for my premium.

Nope!

I'm giving it till Monday till I consider myself to be in the clear.

I know a few people who have had NIPs recently and they said they came in 2 - 3 days. Fingers crossed I've retained my clean license. [-o<

i may be completly wrong just what ive been hearing lately,
