View Full Version : Shoei XR1000 helmet has chips after one journey
Hello, I just bought a Shoei XR1000 gloss black helmet and after one journey (30-40 miles) it has got at least two very noticable chips in the paint -- you can see the white undercoat, this is obviously from road debris hitting the helmet. Would I be wrong in thinking that it sound hold up a bit better than this? I've had my HJC helmet for a long time and it hasn't gotten any chips in it!

My previous helmet took a few hits with noticeable effects (chips). I always heard the hits and it was no surprise to discover the chips subsequently.
Better a chip on the helmet than on your head :D
So far no chips on my new Shoei XR1000 (500kms old, mostly high speed open road).
Not sure if any helmet should be able to take a hit from a stone at 60mph plus
Have done 3000 miles with my xr1000 and it does not have any chips at all but can not say i have noticed any stones hitting it at fast speed.
My Arai seemed to chip quite easily and that was pink (???) under the paint. My AGV doesn't seem to have chipped at all.

I've currently got four helmets I regularly use, all have chips in the paint, (2 Arai's & 2 Shoei's)but then they are used a lot, don't think it's anything to strange, both these makes are fairly consistent with their finish, think you've just been unlucky.
Cheers Mark.
