What car would you have?

Yeah, I know, we're bikers, but if you're basically a petrol head like I am there must be ONE car you would love to own.

I've really struggled to narrow it down..............DB7? Diablo? GT40? Bently Arnage? Bugatti Veyron? All fantastic cars.

In the end though, I went for the one that Pete and I had a great play with on a lovely stretch of road down to Tetbury.

A 2.8-litre engine Golf V6.

Is: rocketship, glued to the road.
Isnt: so flash as to get robbed whenever you slow down to less than 30mph. dont care about dings. Park it anywhere etc.

And a Tuono.

And a 916.

And a 1150 gs.

if I wanted a modern car it would be the Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Or if it where a more older car, than the old DB5

I'd simply have a BMW M5, possibly the finest car available if you consider it has five seats, 500 Bhp, and is almost anonymous when compared to some flashy exotic. Oh and the fact that it's reliable and only (sic) costs £65,000 is the icing on the cake.

If you want that sort of a yoke, have a look at the Veyron.

"In a drag race you could let the McLaren get to 120mph before setting off in the Veyron. And you’d still get to 200mph first."

http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,12529-1890873,00.html

Properly insane car.

Sort of reminds me of a story...
A lad I knew was starting to be a cop. Out on the road, catching speeders. First day there.
And, he hears a wailing inline four. So he is all lined up, ass out, straight arms, locked and loaded.

"Something on two wheels" screams past. and registers over 150mph on the box.

So your man is falling over himself, trying to gather up his kit and get in the car, while the officer with him hasnt even looked up. Still doing the crossword, cup of tea on the lap.

"What are ye doing son?" (Still looking at the crossword.)
"Did ya see that????"
"See what..."
"That BIKE!!!"
"Listen son. At this point, yer mans either in Belfast. Or dead. Either way, its not your problem. Now be still.

10 down... starts with a 'T' "

This is a big decision we are making here Scoobs. Just want to make sure you make an informed choice.

I suppose the F1 has nice goldy bits around the engine. The Zonda is meant to be a bit special. Basically a Lotus Elise, only fast.

Whats nice about the Veyron... is that when you are doing more than 230 or something, you press a button, and the spoilers vanish back into the car. Because you arent going to be going around corners anyway at that speed.

Which is quite commited.

My brother had an M5 when he moved out to live and work in the States. He loved it. I preferred the car he had over here, a Lotus Esprit Turbo, but he really rated the M5.

What's nice about the F1 is that it wasn't (originally) weighed down with all these stoopid buttons and appendages. It was simple, uncluttered, focused with form following function. Everything since has been pointless tat (well not quite tat, but you know what I mean) as McLaren had done it all first. You also got a proper gear shift and none of this flappy paddle ****.

The McL wasn't perfect but it's flaws were more than made up for in the execution of the positives.

In case you can't tell, I have a bit of a thing for this car.

PS You can't just push a button in the Bugatti. You have to stop and select top speed mode...

I dont think thats quite right, When Clarkson was driving that on Top Gear a while ago he had to stop in a layby, stick the key into a keyhole somewhere by the seat I think.. and then it woudl retract the spoiler. He said that it was a safety feature as you wouldnt want to retract the spoiler when driving on a twisty bit of road as they provide a fair bit of downforce

well guys i prob wouldnt have any supercars. I would be scared about it getting dirty, dings, rain and you could never use all of that performance. Its such a waste. IMHO!! I agree with the M5 idea. £65k is amazin value for a four door saloon that drives like a supercar. Autocar were splitting hairs between it and the new ferrari F430. I really does show what a major achievement that car is. I would have an M5 or a new Audi RS4 in racing blue( OHH THAT NOISE!!!!) V8 simply amazin!! andrew

Also your dream car changes with time and design, I guess. Although they are always up their on the list.

Here goes........

As of today - McLaren Mercedes SLR
As of a while back - McLaren F.1
As of a bit further back - Ferrari F40
As of loads of years back - Audi S1 (short wheelbase, of course)

No GT40

Shelby American where drafted in to the Ford GT project in 1964 as Ford where unhappy with the performance and lack of race success.
It was largely the work of Shelby, engineer Phil Remmington and test driver Ken Miles that transformed it into the multiple Le Mans winning GT icon we all know and love.

It was largley Shelby's sucess with Cobras and his own impressive racing CV that led Ford to get him involved.

Shelby also had a hand in the Sunbeam Tiger, another pretty British sportscar (Alpine) plus Detroit V8 project

i would still rather have a skoda fabia diesel which has been tuned up to 200bhp.. realistic car for todays roads and brilliant on the fuel economy.. i would spend the rest of the money on bikes..

Dribble, don't start me off, i'd have teh garage of all garages

RS200 EVO - 60 in 2.5 seconds, 0-100 in about 5 seconds.

Ferrari F40 - One of the last quick cars without ABS, traction control, etc etc..

I hate Mercs, but one of these would do too...

http://images9.fotki.com/v175/photos/4/48802/2513314/mb_clk_dtm_03-vi.jpg

My Corsa, but with a silly spec C20LET (2.0 turbo), 4 pots up front, stripped, fully cage welded in, straight cut 6 speed box etc. Basically a silly quick track car...

Arial Atom

Bugatti Veron, just for the fact it costs £3 million + to make it, but gets sold for £800k...

tbh though, thats a very small selection, theres so many supercars out there, i'd really need to sit down and dribble for a while. Something equisite, that is very rare, but still quick enough to see of most hypercars.
