insurance and pillions

i have my full motorcycle licnce been riding for nearly 3 years

im insured TPO and they didnt say anything about a pillion am i insured for one?

or do u have tell them u want a pillion and then the price goes up?

Call them. It should also say in your docs.

Just call them. The price doesnt necessarily go up.

It depends on your policy. On some you can get a slight reduction by stating that you don't carry pillions. If that is true in your policy, it should say in the exceptions document or be mentioned somewhere. If not it's probably ok. Best to ring and check in any case, because otherwise your insurance could be invalid if you take a passenger.

If you had no specific metion of pillions then you ARE insured (unless the bike is only a single seater out the factory)

Imagine if you had to specifically request passenger cover in the car world.....

almost all insurances ask wether pillions are carried or not, if yours is ticked no then carrying a pillion would invalidate the insurance, it doesn't usually make much difference to the cost though. so it's better to say u do just in case.

In our litigation society it's not worth the risk, check.

If you have an accident thats not clearly the fault of others then your pillion is likely to claim from you.

I reduced my insurance for the first year by having it specifcally said that I wouldnt take a pillion, If it doesnt say you are not insured for one on your docs, then I would expect that you are covered. However as eveybody else has said give them a call and find out. Then you definately know for sure that you are covered.

Having pillions specifically excluded from my insurance is something I always do - it saves a few quid but also says dissapointment when people ask for a ride.
