View Full Version : Picking new bike up tomorrow....
2003 GSXR600 :D Can't wait! Although I hope its not snowing like it was today where I am or it's gonna be some experience, given that the only bike I've ridden is a load of crappy 50's, the test bikes and my lovely SV.

Nice. How much did sir pay for that if I may ask? Mileage etc?
Been thinking about it....my insurance should be cheaper come the summer when I get some more NCB.
Of course for insurance reasons I'd want an unmodded version and the white wheels give me nightmares as they must looks rubbish unless its just been washed and you really gotta work hard cleaning that back wheel! My black rear wheel goes from gloss to mat in about 30 miles....
Bit more than I'd have liked, £3950 from a dealer with 9100 miles on it. There are cheaper around but I'm impatient!
Nah sounds pretty consistent with what I've been looking at actually.
Bit of an awkward price point though I am finding. Kind of at a point where you would want Comprehensive insurance but you ain't sure that its worth it over the cost of TPFT.
Hmm wonder what I'd get PX on mine lol
Good luck on the new Bike.
Well I've had to take TPFT insurance, just can't afford comprehensive with the purchase of the bike. I really hope I don't bin it :(
FYI they offered me £2500 trade in on my bike (its currently in the for sale section)

Stupid boy, recommend that you delete some of the detail from that last statement!
Still that means I should get 3k for mine with 2k on the clock?

Why, I've got nothing to hide? Its well known that a dealer will make at least £500 on a trade in. £2500 is book price for a trade in on a 2003 SVS.
Cos anyone buying your bike will know to just offer you £50 more than you were offered as px which is a lot less than ur asking price.
I did that when I bought my Bandit. Said to the bloke "so what did Honda offer you as a px?". £1800 he said (was asking for £2100). So I offered him £1850 and got it. I had only been planning on knocking him down to £2000 cos it was an absolute minter so the bloke just lost himself 150 notes.
Was so funny cos the bloke I bought my last car off made the same mistake.
Won't be a problem if you get interest from a number of buyers who will compete for it but if not...

But the difference is I'm in no rush to sell it and won't let it go at under the asking price. Its advertised on Autotrader + Local paper at higher than here. The only reason its on here is that its got some stuff done to it that people will appreciate more :)
Yeah I think I will have to px cos in the past I have had aggro with insurance whilst the ownership of the new and old vehicle over lap let alone storage problems. Either that or I will sell mine first and then get the new bike but it means not having a bike for a while.
Mind you if they would give me £3k for mine I'd be happy, not sure I'd get anymore private? Im wondering if a Suzuki dealer would give me a better deal than if I went to say a Kwak dealer pxing for a Ninja.
Did you pay screen price or get some knocked off?

They knocked £100 off. Is yours faired/unfaired? You will usually always get more selling private rather than trade in. The dealer will always want to make at least £500 on the trade in.

quite agree. covers his overheads, paperwork etc. they always put £500 or more on asking price.
tell you they can reduce it by say £200 and you think youv'e got a bargain.£300 profit without doing much to it.
but hell, if you like it that much :)
Sweet 8)
What sort of can is that on it?

So it's the big day. Hope you've got better weather there than here. Snowing in Rugby. If they've been out salting might be best to postpone collection, or see if they'll deliver.
Good luck and have fun.

Hmmmm SV650.org -> Sportsbike heaven
Have fun, enjoy, and stay safe
Well woke up this morning and drove the 40 odd miles to the dealers. On the way t'was like a blizzard on the motorway! Was really hoping that it would stay dry though, which it did.
Got to the dealers, did the deed then had to wait 2 hours for them to service it and give it a test run before they could release it to me. I finally got the keys at 4pm. I started her up.
First thing I noticed was the sound. It has a Yoshimura Tri Oval can with out the baffle. One could say its loud  My 6'+ frame felt much better on the bike, the tank is so much wider. I was expecting a more radical riding position but IMO its not too different to the SV, which is strange because many people find it too extreme.
Next thing was the power. I'd go as far as saying it has more low down grunt than the SV. Open up the throttle and it pulls and pulls. I was scared to go over 10K revs
Seat is nice and comfy. Brakes are awesome. The suspension also feels remarkably better. You can feel the rear shock soak up the bumps more rathen than just 'bumping' over them if you know what I mean.
The bike look gorgeous. 9100 miles and its had 5 services since new! Immaculate condition, a totally unmolestered example. I've decided I'm spending no money on accessories on this beast as its near complete as it is. Maybe a tail tidy, thats the lot.
Will post pics tomorrow when its light!
Peace.

Congratulations!
Robbo, I understand it was the first time you've ridden an IL4. Was
it difficult to get used to it? Reason I am asking is that I've
never ridden an IL4 (apart from my SV I've ridden only the test
bike, a GS500, and various hire 125s).

I was a little nervous when I was handed over the keys but a few miles is all it took to get a little feel of the bike/throttle/brakes etc. I found it very easy to contol at low speeds, there is no 'twichyness' when opening the throttle that the SV sometimes has. I'd say I find it easier to ride than the SV. Of the little riding I did today, I noticed that it felt more stable especially at high speeds. The seat is far more comfy than any other bike I've ridden which was also a suprise.
I had the impression that it was going to be an absolute roaring devil to handle, and spit me off if I did anything wrong. Far from it, it feels very nice to ride and I'm looking forward to spending more time on it racking up more miles.
Note that these are first impressions, I have only done 40ish miles so far so it could change when I start to push it a little more. But from the riding I did today I can say I have utmost confidence in the bike, it is a really nice ride.
Go get a test ride 8)
