Just got quoted 184 to fit metz z6's to the wheels on the sv at national tyres
(5 mins down the road)
But the guys says they wont take the wheels off but they have paddock stands there -
I aint too keen to do it myself there to take em off as i dunno what to do about adjusting the chain (and anything else eg. torques )
Should i stop being a wimp and get a pair of paddock stands and learn to do it myself? - is it easy? or should i go elswhere as they will do this for me for a bit more dosh and less bother? (5 mins down the road tho!)

Why not wait until the show to see if you can get a bargain, well I am going to try.
If it was me I would go somewhere else.

How bizarre.
Get yourself some paddock stands. They are bloody useful anyhow. Getting the wheels off is easy.
Back wheel: If its a curvey, loosen the torque are that holds the rear brake caliper pointy doesn't have a torque are), loosen off the chain adjusters (tip: count the number of revolutions to the adjuster so you can just put them back to what they were before when you refit the wheel), undo the bolt on the spindle and push the spindle out. Support the wheel while you are doing this. Unhitch the chain et voila.
Front wheel: Remove brake calipers from the forks, undo the pinch bolts from the bottom of the forks, remove spindle. Again support the wheel while you are doing this.
Check out the torque figures on the manuals on the main site.
That's expensive for Z6s, particularly as it's not a ride in/ride out price. And as it's National I believe they'll try to match a more competitive quote so it might well be worth going back to them and asking for £165 as that's what you've been quoted "elsewhere" - and even that's not cheap for loose wheels.
Okay I'll go back down south now  .
.
I thought everything was cheaper oop norf
I paid £165 for Z6s ride in/out for my SV1000

Was that from Micheldever tyres?
Damn good value and the bloke is a spot on geezer to boot.

Heck! why is it so bloomin hard to get a ride in/ride out bike tyre fitter in scotland?
(fife area!)
i might go down the paddock stand road! - im gonna have to learn to do this! - unless i can go somewhere to get it done
best cheapest paddock stands - any recommendations?
and what about torque tools?
(pointy sv btw)
Probably about the cheapest (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERB-NEW-FRONT-REAR-PADDOCK-STAND-SETS_W0QQitemZ8041566920QQcategoryZ25644QQtcZphoto QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). These will do the job....just.

41 views and not one bit of a hint where to go for tyres!
you lot running those new jet powered flying sv's yeah?

Strathearn Tyres are often recommended (never used them myself).
See the SV Ecosse Contacts (http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=21317) sticky.

I think Alvins were £175 for the pair, ride-in-ride-out. Not particularily cheap, but not bad either. As usual, if you want dirt cheap, look eslewhere, but if you want it done right, they're not a bad bet.
If you can get somewhere that will fit and balance tyres you supply, then try Crossan. Free 24Hr delivery. I have used them several times.
Pair of Sportec M1 for £139, or your Z6's are £159.

Strathearns a bit away and given how cold it is and how square the back tyre is looking i dont think its viable :(
Serves me right for not getting it done just before the crappy weather kicked in
Alvins quoted me 200 quid for ride in / out for z6's !!

Ooh, not so good. Specially in off-season, their workshop won't be exactly rammed...

Have you tried Scott Murray motorcycles in Dunfermline. http://www.alex-scott.co.uk/smm/hiband-index.htm. I have used them a few times and have found them to be OK. Friendly staff and the price for the tyres woz OK. In fact I just used them for a service and they only charged £80.

i have to wait 2 weeks to get em done.
i'm gonna see how the weather is on saturday and gamble wether to go to crieff brrrrr!
or got to alvins - failing that what the heck i'll book it with scott as the next 2 weeks are still gonna be chilly and its the motor show next week so i wouldnt take the bike out probably anyways! until its done - im just being over anxious!
btw nice link on ebay for those stands! - maybe next time ill be able to get the tyres myself and take the wheels off and just get someone to slap em on and refit the wheels myself!

Good luck fella,
Paddock stands are definetly one of the best things you can get for your bike, its like an investment or summit!
Centre stands eh? Remember them?
Used to get my tyres at National. You need to use their equipment to take off the wheels. The guys always dug in tho' and gave us a hand, a change from working on tin cans all day! After a few months you'll be king spannerman.

What about the abba stand that looks really good, thinking of buying one myself?

NWS is said to be better. I like my Abba stand, it does so much more than normal paddock stands, and it's more solid too.

BEST DEALS FOR TIRES!!!
Best tires in my opinion for the price are the CONTINETAL ATTACKS
£140 for the pair including delivery!!!
Then wait till your next service and put them on at the same time.
Thats one trip a year to your local garage!!
