OK.. I wash my bike by hand
but-
does anyone use a garage jet wash??...with all the suds nwax etc and rinse?
any good?
I like cleaning it myself but lately it is so dirty wen i pass a local garage I sometimes wonder?
can it be done with a jetwash or are there hazards like chain seals. electrics and brake seals etc.
ta in anticipation

I was under the impression jet washing bikes was a no no. I think it's because the pressure allows water to get into bearing housings, etc.
I use a 2 litre plant spraying hand pumped thing. It's not very powerful, but it's an easy way of getting water to those hard to reach places. Cost about £2 in Lidls a couple of years ago.
This ain't BASAT-compliant.

I use my own domestic jet wash (on low pressure,) at home (and always have done,) never had any issues... Just give some adequate relief between the lance and your bike if the pressure is too high ;)
I wash mine with a powerful home Jet wash.
Never had any problems, just need to be carefull not to point it directly at any oily bits.
Always go round it with some lube as soon as its dry.

Me too. I usually wash my hand but if I get the pressure washer out just avoid the chain and greased hinged bits and wires - and don't fill up the exhaust pipe with poorly directed hose sprays!

Keep it away from any bearings- swingarm, wheels mainly- and anything greased- brake calipers. Personalyl I find them ineffective against bike ooze, Muc off and a hose seems to work better than a powerwasher and shampoo.
The only time I didn't jet wash mine this winter I aquired a nice collection of crystals
I tend to stand back a bit and not aim too closely at the vunerable bits ignition, bearings, chain, etc

ive always washed mine with a pressure washer, cnat imagine getting the bucket and ponge out at this time of year, use a sponge or brush to get the film and oil fling and stuff off.
jetwash is fine as long as you dont blast the electrics or the bearings too much.
jet away...........

It's mine and I can wash it as hard and as fast as I like.
Now, back to the bikes. I used a jet wash on my bandit once and it took a while to start afterwards but they are bloody handy for getting the bike really clean. I still prefer the sponge an bucket method though, it's more of a bonding session with the bike......or is that bondage?

I just hand washed my bike this morning. It started snowing. I am more inclined to think a garden hose would be best, not too strong, but a nice load of water to wash off the salt and mud. I don't have a garden hose though, so that is why it has taken me 20 minutes to type this post with frostbite.

Jet wash story... OI used ot jet wash the Virago from time to time, but it needed to sit overnight for the electrics to dry out afterwards- I used to ride it up to the petrol station, clean it, push it home. Then the day before someone was coming to view it when it was for sale I thought "I'll give it a last minute scrub up." Up to the petrol statin, out with the jet washer... Off with all the paint on the left hand engine casing, in one massive sheet, like a caterpillar coming out of a chrysalis. Had no choice but to spend the next 20 minutes feeding pound coins into the washer and blasting the rest of the paint off. Sold it the next day ;)
Don't jet wash you rad either. It can distort the veins. Know two people who have and heard of others.
