Had the tattoo done 3 years ago. I'd wanted one for a long time, but I'm a wuss when it comes to needles, and I was sure it would hurt like Hell. Finally I just went and did it.(And I was right, it DID hurt a bit) :D
It had to be a dragon..............I have a bit of a thing about dragons :D

Yeah, it took me ages to find the one I liked too. I didn't want a cute, girly dragon, and I'm not too keen on the Chinese-style ones either. I wanted one with a bit of attitude. I'm really happy with the one I chose.
I think you're wise to wait until you find something you really, really like. It would be terrible to end up with a tattoo you weren't happy with. It's not like you can just wash it off :D
It's a bit difficult to make out the detail on my screen - any chance of coming up to Rugby for a closer look?
Nice photo! Not sure I should have opened the link at work though...
Anyway. I went to Tahiti once. You may already know that they are a bit big on tatoos there. I was thinking of getting one (it's not every day that you go to Tahiti after all) but it's quite a serious undertaking. They use tatoos to know who you are, so they to take the time to get to know you, find out what you are like and where you are from, before selecting an appropriate identity marker. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time for that... :(

I had one done when I was at university, sort of getiing a tattoo for the sake of it if I'm honest. Crap design, poorly executed, regretted it striaght away.

I have had in total 6 seperate tattoo's, but it only looks like i've got 3
Chinese dragon on my left arm when i was 15 8-[ i know very naughty
Small Tribal arch on my back when i was 16
Arch extended and lowered when i was 16 1/2
Arch again added to when i was 17 bringing it lower down my back
Chinese dragon covered with a one-off Free-hand tribal design 18th
Just had ROBBO in old english text under my navel 2 weeks ago.
Most painful....Errr...it hurts going over the spine....It hurts on your inner bicep...& it hurts on your abdomen. It's not unbearable though, it stings more than a blatant pain.
The only one i regretted was the dragon, at the time i liked it but now that just aint me, so i had it covered.
see if i can find any pics of them.

I can quite categorically state that I DON'T enjoy the feeling of needles, but it didn't all hurt. The outline did, but the shading was definitely bearable.
When I was trying to decide where to have the tattoo I worked on the theory that it might not hurt as much on a fleshy part as over bone. That's why I went for my bum in the end..............it's definitely got the most meat on it :D

Belly button piercing was worse than the tattoo
I haven't got a navel piercing but my nipples both hurt more than the tattoo. Luckily piercings are done quicker.
On mine I found the absolutely worst bit to be about an inch either side of the spine. On the spine wasn't fun at all but it was just normal pain, either side it felt like somebody was dragging a red hot poker across my skin.
I'm also a sweater and a bleeder. He had to redraw it twice on my skin cos it kept washing away before he'd done the outline.

04-03-06, 06:48 PM
I have tatoo's on both arms, upper and lower. I have to say that I truely regret every one of them, especially those on my forearms. I now live in the "corporate" world and cannot wear short sleeved shirts in the summer. I believe it doesn't set the right tone for somebody of my seniority, and therefore have to rely on the aircon on warm days....
Please, don't come back with any comments about how I feel. I had first one done at 16, I'm now 44, and have regreted having them done for the last 20 years..... I should have listened to me Dad.....

So would you advise against me getting them?
I was thinking of getting something on my upper arms, bi-cep area. Would this hinder me in "corporate world" as i want to get into business when im older and after my A-levels.

I just grew up in a different world to the one in which I now live. Like I said, I regret every one of them, and my 16 year old Student son hears that every day, as I don't want him to make the same mistake.
But at the end of the day, the choice is yours.....

LMAO..............my son was DEAD against me having a tattoo.............even though he'd got one. I just think he was jealous cos mine's bigger and better than his!
I also chose to have mine in a place not seen in normal day to day life, as I know some people really don't like them, especially on women.
Peter Henry
04-03-06, 08:47 PM
I have the same problem as Jelster.Mine are on my outer fore arms. I don't dislike tattoo's but wished I would have had them done on my upper arms. The majority of my working life has also seen me unable to wear short sleeves during business hours, which now I live in Spain can be a nightmare believe me. :?
Don't have one but often thought about getting a Senna "S" on my right shoulder.
Same as my Avatar.
Next to my heart and all that.
Like I said, I regret every one of them, and my 16 year old Student son hears that every day, as I don't want him to make the same mistake.
.
LOL that reminds me of my Grandfather, covered in tattoo's from his navy days in WWII, he regretted the lot of them, When my Dad was young and considering a tattoo on his arm, My Grandad simply said "If you come home with a tattoo on your arm I'll cut your arm off"
Safe to say, Dads got none.
I've got five just not got any pics at mo', I'll get camera out tomorrow.
I have a few. From awful to quite good.
First is right lower arm (the worst) This one is 21 years old and was done by a novice. Yeah I know you can tell. I hate it.
http://upload3.postimage.org/39698/Rightlowerarm.jpg (http://upload3.postimage.org/39698/photo_hosting.html)
2nd one I had on the left upper arm. Better but still crap. Tattoo art work has come along way in the 15 years since I had it done.
http://upload3.postimage.org/39709/Leftupperarm.jpg (http://upload3.postimage.org/39709/photo_hosting.html)
Next one is on the right upper arm. Yes it did used to have a name on it. Ex wife so the less said about that the better.
http://upload3.postimage.org/39713/Rightupperarm.jpg (http://upload3.postimage.org/39713/photo_hosting.html)
Next comes the one on the right side chest. This one a particularly like. Fantastic detail and the outline lines are so sharp and thin. Great bit of work.
http://upload3.postimage.org/39716/Chest.jpg (http://upload3.postimage.org/39716/photo_hosting.html)
Last is the one on my lower back. This one is my daughters name. It's my own design, therefore unique. I like it a lot.
http://upload3.postimage.org/39718/Lowerback.jpg (http://upload3.postimage.org/39718/photo_hosting.html)
None of the pictures do the tattoos justice as they were taken with my camera phone and I took them myself. They look better in the flesh so to speak.
Hope to be getting another few when I can afford the luxury
That third one is really smart, bigape.
None myself as yet, but always on the lookout for a design ideas. Would almost certainly be celtic influence. I wouldn't be disappointed if I never get one, but would be annoyed if I rushed in and got something I hated the next week!

The second ex-Mrs Boccadillo had tattoos - ostensibly to improve her sex appeal. She had Dickens' "Great Expectations" tattooed on her inner thighs.
It worked to some extent, and I always knew when she wanted sex - frankly, I could read her like a book.

It all depends on your pain threshold, it does hurt the more the detail the more it hurts. Go back and see mine that hurt but I would still get another.

ive had 4 tattoos 3 celtics and a welsh dragon and everyone of them has hurt like.well like something really hurty.
id never tell people that oh its nothing, just an annoying scratch cos its not, i agree that everyone has a different threshold, but think about it someone jabbing you 2-3mm with an needle 600 times a minute for half an hour is gonna smart a bit.
my last one was full width accross my back, shoulders that one hurt so much its put me off going back to get my leg done ( i want a dragon from ankle to knee) i was actually graying out while he inked me kept having to stop for me to come round enough for him to carry on.
but then im a soft northern monkey.
Tattoo's hurt (a little) but nothing compares to having your nipple pierced. Had it done. Unfortunately when I was in hospital they took it out. By the time I had recovered enough to think about putting it back in, they didn't know where the ring was and the hole had healed up. I have thought about having it done again, but can't bring myself to go through the pain again.

oh the sweet joys of having your tats done hey? Wel i consider myself to not be on the wimpish side at all,(apart from hating cold weather and cold water e.g sea and pools!)
But my thoughts are that having the tattoos done was like holding my arm against a boiling kettle. the outline hurts more as they are constantly moving the needle to new nerve areas. The filling in is more bareable as you sort of get used to it in the one area. Any of that make any sense to you fellow human canvasses? :?
BTW I did lie....I have a 3rd tat which is in a rather err hum....gentlemanly place!
Normally it says LUDO but when I get excited it says....
LLANDUDNO!

Totally agree, having my nipple pierced hurt so much more than any of my tattoos

can you tattoo over scar tissue?
Yes to a degree you can. If we are talking about simple operation scar tissue then the answer is yes. If you look carefully at the tattoo on my back in the picture, you will see that a scar runs down the length of my spine from an operation.
If however the scar is say a deep burn type scar then the answer is no. This is because the skin is different.
When you have a tattoo, the ink is injected about 3 or 4 mm below the surface into the permanent skin (forget the technical name for this). With heavy scar tissue this is not possible.

I considered the £80 for my tattoo money well spent, love it.
As for the female equivalent of the Albert......................doesn't hurt a bit :D
I guess that's compensation for childbirth :D :D :D

My tattoos and piercing have cost me about £450 so far............. but there are more to come
I have one on each upper arm so they are easy to cover in the office and I have made a promise that i will get nothing done from elbows down, neck up and knees down for obvious reasons.
I also have a back piece that was very painful but i have never regretted having any of them done and they have been with me now for over 10 yrs ... if you are thinking about getting one done my advice to anyone would be to draw your design pin it somewhere you are going to see it everyday. If at the end of 6 months there has not been one single day where you havent loved the design then go for it.. once its done it is very painful to get it removed and a hastle to tattoo over it in a cover up attempt!
