SVRider seems to be down so I thought I'd post here a little more :D
In a goal to learn how to work with sheet metal and make my SV look like nothing else on gods green earth, I've done the following...
My latest is the tank, the lower part is stock SV, the upper is 1985 GSXR and the cap fitting is 02 GSXR...

Love it?
Hate it?

It's quite different, and in some ways I rather like it - very seventies cafe racer.

Didn't you see the original story :?:

The bike had had a rear end shunt & was well mashed, that is the back end off some old Honda I think :-k

not to keen on it to be honest. a bit to cut and shot. i would have gone for a gixxer back end or similer. but thats just my taste. but a good job of fitting it. cheers. j

Thanks for the replies!
Yes, it's been some serious work but motly done so I could learn how to fabicate.
The tail is off a 1972 Kawasaki H2, so is the seat pan but I cut 4" out of its length.
The side covers are tinted lucite and the subframe is all custom.
Yes, I was thinking Mad Max Streetfighter and seventies cafe racer :D

Here's a pic with the seat up...

The projects for the rest of the winter are 03 GSXR600 front end and a HID headlight off a 2005 Cadillac CTS...

Hey Donnie,

Sorry mate... I am going to be brutally honest... I don't like it. I never have... I've seen it on SVRider and it's just not for me.

On the contrary, I do appreciate the work and crasftsmanship you have put into the bike.

I'm not much into modern bikes but after racing 2 seasons I got to like the SV. It also bothers me that so many people try so hard to make there SV look like a GSXR or R6, my design is my answer to the all-to-common styling.

I don't expect anyone to like it, I just expect them to respect the skillz

Oh definately. I like it when people do soemthing out of the ordinary and make themselves unique... I mean, we are bikers so we are a different breed of cat. ;)

You definately have some skill mate! :) I hope I didn't offend you in anyway, that was not my intention. Take care,

Mitch

I still don't like that back end.....

True, a lot of skill and hard work has gone into it (I probably could never get anywhere close to being able to do that) but I think it spoils the look of the rest of the bike.

A shortened tail, mono seat or maybe a more modern unit would have looked far better, IMHO. ('02-''03 R1 tail would look well cool, or the back end of a current Mille for example).

Hasn't all that been done enough times?
How many people have to do the same mods? If I wanted a bike that looked like a GSXR or a R6 I would have bought a GSXR or a R6...

The part I like the most about my bike is there's no mistaking it for any other bike or anyone elses. Love it or hate it, you know it's mine :D

Actually Don, I've NEVER seen another bike with the back end from the current Mille, or an 04/05 GSXR 600/750 either.

Don't get me wrong, you've done a fantastic job with it, but personally I think the back end looks awful, but you designed & built it so it's your prerogative... I just expressed my opinion, it wasn't criticism.....

I haven't seen a SV with a Mille tail either but have seen the 04+ GSXR tails on a SV. More generally what I had meant was the idea of a supersport tail on the SV has been done *so* many times. It seems to me that everyone who mods there bike heads in the same direction, that direction is to make there SV look like a supersport. I'm not the "go with the flow" type so instead I picked and pieced together the parts that I liked, what you see is how it wound up.

I respect your opinion and appreciate the comliment on my fabircation work!
I had considered making a different tail this winter but time ran out and I got stuck on other mods like the tank, HID lighting and GSXR forks. Maybe next year I'll have the time and motivation. I'm thinking of something minimal, very short with just a free-floating seat....... we'll see.......

Actually, a VFR (Interceptor) tail with twin pipes underneath would look pretty cool...

A little to Science Fiction for me though I will admit I really like the Ducati Monoposto tail for a 996...
The pic doesn't show it but it's got these cool little vents covered with aluminum mesh
