Anybody done a trackday on Metzler road attacks? As I fitted these, not knowing I was going to do a trackday, but now I am.

Cheers Joe.

I suppose the answer then is no  .

Continental Road Attacks
Metzeler Road Tec

Two different but similar tyres  .

As mentiond 2 different tyres, pick one but the answer will be similar. Plenty of grip up to a point but neither are built as a full-on sports tyre.

Did a couple of track days on the Bridgestone 020 tyres on the bandit 600 which would be about equivelent and was fine. On the first few trackdays it most likley you will be the limiting factor not the tyres

I did a trackday on Roadtecs if that's any use. They were better on a cold, damp track than all the super-sticky stuff that the track bikes were wearing, but when it dried out they weren't so good. Cornering was fine, as long as I didn't try and do it too fast (in the hairpin, they'd lean as far as I wanted but if I dropped it in hard it'd slide) but straight line braking was a wee bit of an issue. ie, crashed a bit ;) That was my fault for outriding the grip available, won't blame the tyres, but there was waaaaay less grip there than I'd have like to have for the hairpin and chicane at Knockhill.

I did get to make a fool out of a guy on a 636 with rennsports on in one of the dry sessions. Quote "I can't keep up with that SV in tehe back section, I've only got Rennsports, not slicks". His mates noticed my tractor tyres at just about that exact moment ;)

Personally, I don't intend to do another trackday with a Roadtec front. They did fantastically well considering they're sport-touring tyres that'll outlast 3 Sportecs, they're just not meant for it. Probably get a Sportec M1 on my spare front wheel. The savings I make by using Roadtecs on the road more than paid for a spare wheel and tyre after a year 8)

Put it this way though, to give it some perspective... I'd sooner have Roadtecs all year and do an occasional trackday on Roadtecs, than have Sportecs all year.

What sort of mileage do you think a Sportec M1 will get with general road riding? My mate has just fitted one to the front of his 600 Monster...

And what do you think the Z6 will do in comparison?

Figures of course are directly related to how the rider rides the bike and should be taken with a large pinch of salt as it's your own riding style that will ultimately determine mileage.

I'm pretty heavy on tyres but some peeps seem to be able to make them last forever.

From reading many posts on the subject I reckon that a Road Tec will outlast an M1 by a factor of 3-4.

Sounds about right. Before the Roadtecs, I had Sportecs fitted... I put 2500 miles on them till they were completely and utterly dead, the rear at least, but I don't rightly know how many miles were on them before I got it. Checking the receipts, I'd say in the region of 1000-1500, but there's some guesswork. To be honest though, the bike did not get ridden hard for much of those 2500 miles, the first 500 at least would have been as easy a time as road tyres get.

Then, Roadtecs, which I've had on more or less ever since. I changed the front when I changed to the GSXR front end, so no idea how they last. I've done 10000 miles since, with about two thousand of that being on my spare wheel, so 8000 to date including a trackday, And they're not dead yet, not even close. Now, to be fair that's been a winter of commuting and the time where I was getting back into the saddle after 5 months off with my hip, so again, for lots of those miles it's not been hard used.

As Jonboy says, your mileage may vary ;)

Look like I should see about 10k miles then from them. Lets face it, if I can get 150 miles till reserve, I can't be using that much rubber either

running a tad rich, with oversized jets, M4 system, BMC RSrace filter (averaging about 98 to the tank) mixture of commute, fun and three trackdays, I got 14,054 out the last Z6 on the SV (although that was about 500 mile more than I should have  ).

(nearly 8,000 on the Z6 on the speedtriple at the moment, and shedloads more to go  ).

Of course, I'm one of the more sedate riders ( no I am, really, honest, I'm being truthful here, just ask anyone, Errr Ok forget that last one, second thoughts forget the ones preceeding it as well  )

Cheers Mark.
