Hellow

I have a problem!!!!!!!!!!! I can not start my SV650S - K4. On the dashboard I see ,,FI'' wich indicates a problem with the gasoline (according to the manual).

I first want to ask your opinions, tips and so on.

Of course I can not drive to a garage or a Suzuki dealer and I want to wait before I invite a technician at my home. I think it is quite expensive...

Please help.......................

Anything else happen? Do you hear the fuel pump pressurising the system, will it allow you to turn the engine over?

check that you haven't knocked the kill switch be mistake. I've done this before and tried setting alarm on and off thinking the immobiliser was stuck, but it was the kill switch (red button on off side bar)

if u have an alarm fitted..check the fuse to it!

SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MY PROBLEM:

My display indicates ,,FI'' and a red indication lamp is flikkering goes on/off. The Suzuki service manual says the following: it is a problem with the fuel injection system. If you can not start the bike go to a local Suzuki dealer.

I can turn my key on. Lights burn but the engine does not start. It only says ,,Uhu uhu uh''. (My English is not that good). :?

An alarm is not the answer, I do not have one. :?: :?: :?:

PLEASE MORE TIPS, ANSWERS,...

Sounds like the engine is turning over so I am guessing it is an electrical problem and the dealer will have to fix it.

stupid points:

Check you have plenty of fuel

If you're still struggling, there is a way to get the bike to tell you exactly what is wrong.

If you put the bike into 'dealer mode' it will give an error code.

Look here for a guide to how to put your bike into dealer mode: http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=10245

Once in dealer mode, look at the clocks. The error code starts with a 'c', and will be shown bottom right.

If you can tell us what this code is we can tell you what the problem is, and hopefully how to fix it.

This may not be of any use...but I thought I post it just in case.

A friend of mine had a similar problem this week. He found that when fitting bar muffs he'd dislodged the small lead that attaches to the clutch lever (the one that's used to make sure you pull the lever in before starting). He fiddled with that for a bit, and managed to get it started.

Same problem can be caused by the side stand switch thingy.

'Scuse the technical jargon

Have you checked to make sure the battery is not flat? It sounds like the starter is trying to turn the engine over but just can't do enough to get the engine started, so it seems very much like a flat battery to me.

I have the same problem with my SV1000s

And its the ignition barrel

Sometimes I get the F1 blinking problem, and the bike turns over but wont start. I've run the battery down a couple of times before I spoke to Rob the mechanic.

Rob set the bike into maintenance mode, and checked with suzuki, for my problem, its definately the barrel.

You need to turn the key to off, and then back to on, repeat it until you dont get the flashing F1. Theres something wrong with the key barrel. I've heard several people have the same problem, and if its under warranty get the barrel replaced.

My bikes done 28,000 miles and its starting to do it more and more. At some point it will go, and I'll have to replace the barrel, until then its just an annoyance.

Yup this happened to me too.

Bike started to refuse to start intermittently.

The bike finally gave up the ghost on a rideout...culprit was the ignition barrel which was replaced under warranty.

Trouble is you have to replace the whole set if you wanna keep the same key....petrol cap lock, under-seat storage and ignition.

Good luck with it.

My sv650k3 has done this a few times its the anti hot wire contact in the ignition switch you could could bypass it with a resistor. but this will loose you the hot wire protection.

Funny that this subject should come up. I let my girlfriend borrow my bike and she came back two hours later saying that she got stuck at tescos because the bike wouldn't start. FI light kept on flashing and the engine wouldn't turn over. A week later the same thing happened to me. My clutch was in desperate need of adjusting to the point that it started biting after releasing a few mm from the handlebar. Took the bike to sturdeys today to get the bike looked at and all they did was adjust the clutch and charged me 25 quid for it.
They said it was happening because the clutch was so badly adjusted that it wasn't making contact with some switch.
I miss carbs! :(

My girlfriend has just bought herself an SV1000 so i'm gonna see what I can break on hers.

This is exact the information that I need. It has nothing to do with the battery or the alarm.

Now I have tried the dealer mode but my dashboard still shows me ,,FI''. So, no codes. Damn... :x

I was able to put the bike in dealer mode and the code C32 lighted up. It indicates a problem with the fuel injectors and especially with the connectors.

Anyone ever had this problem. Tips or suggestions? Much thanks in advance.

There is a section on fault finding the FI system in the manuals here: http://www.sv650.org/sv_manuals.htm

All right dudes. First of all I want to thank you for all your feedback. :notworthy: :notworthy:

The C23 indicates a problem with the TO sensor. The sensor hangs on the battery box. On the sensor is an arrow which indicates the site up.
It is a safety sensor. If the bike goes over a certain corner (when falling down for example) the engine clicks of.

I had the problem afther installing the GSX-R rear shock. I cut the battery box of the original undertray and also cut the TO sensor of the plastic. I did not pay further attention to the TO sensor so it layed down and that is why I was not able to start my bike.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELPFULL TIPS :P

Yey, glad to be of help. This is exactly the mistake I made when I installed the GSXR shock

Had to use dealer mode to find out the problem too
