Ok ok so now the brakes are doing my head in,

Not to long ago I posted about getting my calipers painted since I was stripping the brakes down to fit braided lines anyway.

Well got the calipers back from painters needed new seals on the rear one as they had expanded too much and got all the lines fitted ect.

After spending about 2 hours struggling to get anywhere with the fronts finally got some feel on the lever but was not too pleased did the rear went a little better but also pedal felt bit poor.

Just spent another morning trying to bleed them to fix the problem and was told to tip the calipers upside down to get out trapped air front produced alot of air doing this but after alot of bleeding could not get even one more bubble yet still the lever seems to come back too far for my liking was expecting less movement in the lever and a very hard lever :?:

Has anyone else had such a problem and any advise would be gratefull as I was hoping to have solved it by now :(

Glad its not a job that needs doing too often

Try pumping the leaver a few times then tie it back (closed), leave it over night and see how it feels. Should help shift any of those little air bubbles that may have built up. Make sure the reservoir is the highest point so leave it on the side stand. If you find that at the end of the next day the brakes are spongy again then you have air getting in. Though you can do the same again so you can ride it down to a mechanic or something.

Get a Mityvac! I hate bleeding brakes, but since I got my Mityvac I stopped putting it off. Makes it quick, tidy and easy. Lovely.

Seconded. Expensive but worth it.

Got one too. Trouble is air still seems to get in as you suck the fluid out. Still the best method of bleeding brakes that I've found.

Ditto to that

I had one. Works ok but not a necessity. I've seen shops with the pressurised bleeding kit who have still ended up finishing the bleeding using the traditional method.

From my experience most of the problems people have with bleeding is to do with air in the master cylinder.

What I do is put the lines on and just nip the banjo up a touch(master cylinder). Pump lever then loosen banjo. Tighten , pump , then loosen. A few times doing that and you should have a firmer lever , now torque banjo bolt up properly and bleed as normal(I use one of the one way tube things).

Lastly tie the lever back overnight and that's it. Works every time for me.

Cheers
Ben

Air gets in the nipple threads and comes through the vac line to the catch bottle, but air can't get into the hydraulic circuit while you've got low pressure on the bottle.

As others say, certainly not essential, but I still reckon worth it.

On very useful thing is that you can empty out the reservoir completely using the mityvac before you pour in fresh stuff, so you're minimising the amount of mixing of old+new fluid.

Chacun a son gout.
