Hello,

I just bought my new SV650S (2002) with 10500 Miles.
Its my first bike and have to say I love it.

Well the first day I rode it I ended up missing the footpeg and burning my leg on the exhaust. Once I did that I realized that once little messup would cost me another burn, the same with the passenger.

I was wondering if there is any known peice that would fit over the exhaust leaving about a 1 inch gap. I am thinking of heat resistant PVC. Just to cover the part right next to the leg.

I know your all thinking "newbie, cmon, just dont put your leg there". But hey, im just wondering.

Would I have to get something like this custom made?

Thanks in advance,
Griffe

Are you riding in shorts by any chance :?:

You can get can protectors from suppliers like R&G which might be what you're looking for, eg. http://www.rg-racing.com//showproducts/Can_Covers.aspx

cheers

lol,

That day I was, yes...

Those covers seem to protect from the bike going down. Not exactly what im looking for but in the right direction. As I said I may have to have this custom made if I decide to get it.

Wear your leathers and decent leather boots and it won't be a problem. :P

You're thinking of what ducati uses. A heat shield. But the reason the Ducatis have them is because the pipe runs right up behind the rearset.

I have a M4 highsport and no one has ever burned themselves on any portion of the exhaust and it ever runs right up behind the rearset and under the right rear peg. I did however burn the back of my ankle right after getting my SV, but I haven't done it since.

Looking around the net I found a lot of heat shields for cruiser style bikes, that usually have huge exposed exhaust systems. I cannot however find anything that would fit an SV.

So basicly, I would say just be careful. You will probably never burn yourself again - because it hurt the first time.

Banditmania sell a simple shield, it's just a bit of polished steel with a flat bracket on the back, you fit it using a hose clamp or exhaust clamp. I kept on melting my boot on my race system...
