I'm in the market for a DVD recorder to replace my VCR...

The question is which one is 'good' :?: Obviously it'll need to record disks that will playback on any DVD player etc.

I'm not Baron Rothschild (and I am a Yorkshireman,) so it needs to be 'good value for money'

Thanks in advance ;)

Im in the market for one of these as well. Obviously you get what you pay for, but im looking at one of the Panasonic midrange jobbies, with built in hard drive. About £170.

I don't need an inbuilt hard drive as I have got Sky+ now - in fact, the reason I want one is to copy programs I want to keep onto DVD ;)

No, its got a 'copy' button on it, so you can bang stuff off of the hard drive to VCR - so I persume it'll copy to DVD too :?:

I bought a Panasonic, E30 I think. DVR-R and DVD RAM. If I hadn't managed to give it away I would have flung it off beachy head. It was the most frustrating piece of kit ever, it took about 20 seconds to check a disks contents, and the most frustrating, about 15 seconds to eject a disk. Staggeringly annoying if you are just popping disks in to check contents. Couple that to a hopeless menu system and pants remote control to complete the package.

We now have a Tesco cheapo (Teknika) DVD+R recorder, totally superb in comparison - easier to use, far more features.

I got a Bush DVR3003 FREE with my mobile phone contract.

It turns itself on and off at night and during films at random, and is a total pile of cack. Now you see why they give them away free. Avoid that one in anycase.

i must admit the toshiba one i have does take a while to get going. about 10 seconds from first switch on, but after its on things are as quick as i'd expect them to be.

Somerfield were selling a Daiwoo DVD recorder before Xmas for £79! I wish I'd got one now :( .

However this coming Xmas will be when the new batch of affordable recorders will be in, but if you're smart go for one of the hybrid DVD/Hard disk recorders, more expensive but several times as good.

Got a Cyberhome (http://www.cyberhome.de/en/Article19.html) from Asda for £69 a fortnight ago. It seems to get mixed reviews, but heigh-ho it comes with a 12 month guarantee

I got a Panasonic E85H (think thats what it is, 85 is in the product code anyway).

80GB Hard drive, time slip and a DVD player as well.
It can copy from HDD to DVD amongst loads of other things.
Record time is 20 - 142 hours depending on the Record quality setting chosen.

Easy to use would never go back to a VCR.

Cost £299 on offer back then
Highly recommend it.

i had the liteon from argos for £99 but the tuner was **** so i took it back and exchanged it for the philips dvdr610 which was £199 (these prices are from 12months ago) the philips has had a few spaz attack's but it does what it says on the can. my mate just had a philips from sainsburys for £119 and hes well pleased with it.
