The 'PC Brigade' have caused another storm by rewriting a favourite nursery rhyme. They have changed Baa Baa Black Sheep to - Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep. Several nurseries have changed the traditional rhyme so as not offend ethnic minorities, it has been reported.

They say the words "black sheep" alienate and offend young black children.

And that's not the only rhyme to get a 2006 makeover.

Humpty Dumpty has a miraculous escape from impending disaster when he falls from his wall - and stays in one piece.

Teachers say they do not want children to be upset by the human egg's scrapes.

The controversial changes, which have been seized on as political correctness gone mad, have been introduced by some nursery schools in Oxfordshire.

Stuart Chamberlain, manager of the Family Centre in Abingdon and the Sure Start centre in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire, defended the move.

He told the Courier Journal newspaper: "We have taken the equal opportunities approach to everything we do. This is fairly standard across nurseries."

But parents are reported to be unhappy with the move.

"Baa Baa Black Sheep is one of the most well-known nursery rhymes for generations," one parent told The Times.

"For people to come and fiddle with it is ridiculous."

RE Humpty Dumpty.

My kids were taught my version that got them "questioned" in nursery

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty dumpty had a great fall
All the kings horses
and all the kings men
said "Oh no not scrambled egg for dinner again ".

But what happens when these kids grow up and go into pubs for a pint of a certain bitter brewed at the "rainbow" sheep brewery in Masham (http://www.blacksheepbrewery.com). "Pint of rainbow Sheep please"

I live in the borough of lewisham which has a high ethnic mix. With this in mind, the council, and a firend of mine showed me a memo about it, stated that anyone calling Bin bags, Black sacks, or black bin bags will be up on disciplinary. They where to refered to as Refuse sacks! They aslo tried to change the name of Blackheatch, as not to offend the black members of the borough! THe fact that it refered to the Plauge and the black death was neither here of there! Oh, they also tried the baa baa black sheep one as well.

Its madness

Now that I just can't believe !!

Still - I think that Rainbowpool sounds a bit more inviting for a holiday than Blackpool. I wouldn't have a holiday there whatever they called it but it's a start.

If this is true (and I honestly don't doubt you) then it's not only madness but deliberate abuse of the system. In this instance it was you that was discriminated against. You also have better self-control than me - I genuinely would have punched someone should they have attempted to physically remove me from the building.

Anyone fancy a trip to Lambeth for black coffee, some black pudding with black pepper, black eyed peas and black beans, followed by blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry Green & Black's Ice Cream?

Oh but I ride a black SV, is that allowed in south London?

Over the top? Maybe, just that I'm sick to my stomach of all this utter nonsensical political correctness. I treat everyone I meet with equal courtesy and respect, regardless of creed, colour, size, or social background, it was something my parents taught me and was simply known as good manners.

This is the important issue.
We are talking about one tool in a nursery. One spanner.
Thing is, there are race problems in society, this is not one, but they exist.

IMO, the media, the right wing reactionary media, like to take things that some gob****e said, and generalise outwards to include him in the PC BRIGADE.
Therefore all people in the PC BRIGADE are tools, right?

Once you have rubbished any social reform, by aligning them with this group, you can push your own agenda more easily.

And, this is the thing that offends me. This is not a story. Just like, its not a story that a friend of mine called his nigga this morning.

You can see this in the US. The word Liberal was always dodgey. Now the word Democrat is coming under fire. The rigth wing media is associating these words with weak bul****y politics.

Its not.

Giving women the vote, Liberal.
Giving black people rights, Liberal.
giving woman maternity leave, Liberal.
voting for your government, Democratic.

But, they dont mean that here any more. They mean whatever FOX wants them to mean.

You have to look at every story, every news item, and think about why they are publishing it. Think about who is making the story. Think about the desired effect of the story. Because... there are hidden agendas being run here.

Paranoid sounding. But, unfortunately true.

I'm with philipMac. Only less paranoid. I class these stories as being more or less on a par with "Woman eats self to death!" "Crane used to remove corpse". They don't mean the world's overrun with massive people, they mean that the few massive people are a subject for News.

I was less paranoid, until I lived out here for a while.
And, I have been persuaded otherwise. The media here is astonishingly bias. It is really shocking. And, it is a major problem.

In fairness northy, you have about the best media in the world available to you in the UK. So much so, that even Sky has been forced into line.

I suppose I should have said I was talking more about US media... not that you can just take it for granted out there.

Yeah. I didnt realise that. Obviously we dont get it. Em, I suppose, I was saying, I never realised how good the BBC etc was until I saw what was on offer here.
Even with the AlJazera censoring, I still think you are about the best in the world in the UK wrt to fairness.

Quick example, an RTE (irish BBC) journo was given an interview with Bush.
She asked him a few moderately hard questions.
He paniced. Didnt like this at all.
RTE was told that "this administration" would be giving NO more interviews to RTE. Ever.
This included the interviews planed for that afternoon.

Then they attempted to force the journo out of the US, and was harrased in various ways. I think she eventually just gave up, and returned to Ireland.
This is not freedom of speech, freedom of press. This is what dictators do.

Crazy, absolutely crazy. To think we are paying rates to fund these people. Would they eject a black person (or should that be a "person without milk") for asking for a white coffee? I think we should have a condition on candidates for local elections that says "I promise to concentrate on issues relevant to the ratepayers who fund this council".

I might be a bit thick today.

Al Jazera is not a bad news network. I would rate it above FOX in the US.
This is from wiki:

" Al Jazeera is now considered a fairly mainstream media network, though more controversial than most."

This always makes me sigh at the pure stupidity of our nation sometimes. Surely we should still teach children these nursery rhymes. But if they do have connatations towards racism then we should tell them this aswell and explain why this is wrong. We are not going to teach our children anything by trying to hide the worlds racist past or the racism thats in society today.

I am sure that the "black community" looks skywards when they here of councils banning people from requesting black coffee.

And finally, I say nation because we are the silly buggers who keep voting people like this in, or we dont vote at all and then moan about what they are doing.

The problem as I see it is that politicians know that if they try and straight talk by saying something like this PC ******** is going to far, the media will down on them like a ton of bricks trying to catch them out and accuse them of being racist, so best spin it or say nothing. Its our own fault as we buy the papers in the first place. We all ought to do what liverpool did to the Sun newspaper after Hillsborough and maybe this would make the media sit up and listen.

Of course if only the PC brigade realised what a load of twaddle this is, then maybe, just maybe we'd end this downward spiral.

Humpty-dumpty was not a bloody egg in the first place!!!!

If they concentrated in History class, big old H-D, was (most probably, but not confirmed beyond doubt) a 16th century cannon in Colchester.
It fell off St Mary's church wall during battle in the English Civil War. All the King's "men" (foot soldiers) and His "horses" (horsemen) we're unable to drag it from the moat or site it on the church wall again.

The same goes for most of our nursery rhymes, they're mostly from a time before racism was an issue in the UK. True, not all are PC for various reasons, but most are innocent fables based on historic truth.
