It will be settled out of your insurance money.

So does that mean that i will only get a cheque back for what I've paid for so far and then i have to go hunting again? That's a real bummer as i got on the 0% finance deal which was awesome

I think it works like this, but I may be wrong.

If you get a £3000 settlement, but you owe a grand on finance, you get a cheque for £2000.

What!!! that means im losing money! That sucks....whats the point in paying insurance if they dont cover the entire cost of the bike......really hacked off now :(

Edit.....oops really should read things before i switch on the rant mode......so that means that im all square as if ive had a bike for free for 6 months then? still a bummer but hope there are still the 0% finance deals out there.....

how long have you had the bike? i was under the impression that some insurers will replace like for like (ie a new bike) if the bike is written off within the first 6 months. this only applies if the bike is brand new. worth checking the small print.

other thought if the above does not apply, if it's cosmetic damage, why not get the insurers to pay off the finance, give you the difference and then put it back on the road again?

Just a thought,, some places offer gap insurance or something which covers the gap from a insurance pay out and what it would cost to replace with new. Well the dealer offered it to me when i bought a new bike a few years back.

It was offered to me a few weeks ago when I bought Gixxer, its a good idea IMHO and I took out the gap insurance

I took it out on my 125cc which got written-off (van reversed over me & it twisting frame, i jumped off just in time but got my ankle stuck under rear wheel.) in april 04. It NORMALLY costs one extra finance payment i.e 36 months becomes 37 etc. etc. and i got a brand new bike and just caried on with the finance payments.

Didn't get offered it on the SV though cos i bought it with a bank loan

Don't forget to claim for ALL your damaged gear and your G/Fs stuff. And your injuries. That way if you do end up short changed on the bike value front you can make it back in other ways. :)
