View Full Version : Did anyone else hear the new to be rules on speeding?
I am sure I caught a bit on TV last night about a shake up on the speeding offences.
Said something like, get caught speeding twice and your license will be gone!
any one else hear this? or was it a very bad dream :!: :!:
I know that if you've recently passed your test within the last year and you aquire 6 points on your license you've gotta resit your test again
EDIT: if however you go 2 years without getting pulled then its game on :D
I am aware of that, but I am sure it said that it was a shake up of the current law.
at least, i am sure that is what it said.....

Correct. Reduced points for minor speeding offences, increased points for greater speeding offences, as many as 6 points in one go.
I feel safer already
Great!! just what we all wanted to!!
I suppose the fines will be increasing aswell, buggers

No no, you're middle class and own a private vehicle, the perfect candidate for being ripped off. No point stopping poor people from speeding, they've got no money. No point going for the rich either, they have lawyers.

So presumably, doing 50 in a 30 will be deemed less of an issue than say, a ton on a motorway at night with great visibility, no traffic about etc. etc. on the grounds that the latter is 30 miles over the limit, whereas the former is only 20?
Good thing I never speed.

I know they said over a million drivers now have 9 points (mainly for speeding, and most of them from cameras) and are therefore just one offence away from a ban. Scary or what?
The ones who are laughing are the insurers who are racking up the premiums, not because drivers are more of a risk, but because of the higher frequency of them getting caught.
I travel to Germany a lot and they give you just a fine if speeding but within 20km/h of the limit, points as well if 20km/h plus over. That seems sensible to me - OK they have to put a limit there but IMO 80 mph is a safe motorway speed under most conditions, so a slap on the wrist / fine / no points would be better.

Quite frankly any of this 'if you speed by x amount you'll get a fine/points of y amount' is complete crap. We dont need robots pulling people over for exceeding the speed limit an arbitrary amount, we need police pulling people over who are careless drivers.

Agree with you there and I for one would love to see them all go up in flames. However, cameras are here, and probably here to stay. So it becomes a question of how to use the information obtained in a reasonable manner.

as with all laws, you can break em all you want Just don't get caught, and if you do deny everything... Its a crock of sh*t to be honest speed doesn't kill, careless drivers kill but they don't get caught cause speed cameras don't pick em up...
