nearly had an off..twice on my way to work today
the roads in the medway area are bad enough as it is,but what with the rain we had yesterday and the slick of diesel on one of the main roads i use every day it was quite an eventful trip what with dodging the massive pot holes and a large river of rainbow coloured liquid.
got to work and was straight onto medway council but it was funny how the woman i spoke to didnt seem interested but soon changed her tune when i threatend them with legal action if anything were to happen to me accident wise.
has any one else had experiance of this mennace or am i just being a whingy old g*!

Every single day of the week. I work in Uxbridge and my route to the office is along the bus route. I think it's disgusting the way buses dump diesel all over the road. If I ever come a cropper it won't be too difficult to figure out where to point the finger though.

So that would be the A228 then? Not been down there on the bike in a while...mostly in the car on my way from the office. There is always a bit of diesel around the services at snodland and near the entrance/exit to the quarry...hate it coz you cant normally see it when the roads are dry because of the amount of oil on that road anyway and the roadworks at the M20 isn't helping the road surface either

Hell no!!!!!!
That stuff has killed more people than you give it credit for. Have a look here for some usefull info on road conditions and how to get em fixed and also for some info on deisel spills. http://www.bmf.co.uk/report-a-road/
From the site Note: In cases of diesel spillage, mud, or other road surface contamination that is a danger to road users, notify the local police. Although they can prove to be worse than useless in some cases when it comes to this.
Ive reporetd roads and seen them get fixed pretty promptly.

I was just out for a ride today (sorry fair weather rider  ) and i coudn't belive how much disesel there was on the roads, there was even quite a lot out of town where is dosn't normally get dumped.
The worst place i noramll find are the mini roundabouts outside fuel stations which are terrible in the wet, banbury tesco comes to mind.

Every day on the way to work. It's not a an issue, because if you see it and act accordingly it's not really that slippy. The diesel excuse comes out way too much I think.

i agree with what your saying about riding acording to conditions but like i say its not just diesel thats the problem..the road i use to get to work is filled with pot holes and is in generally very poor condition.
i think its not unfair that being a payer of road tax, insurance premium tax, council tax and just about every other kind of tax that there is to expect a better quality of road and for the council to take notice of what im saying

Your point? In the dry it's on the road and you can't see it, it's not slippy in the dry. In the wet, it's bright rainbow coloured, what more do you need.

Me? I need them not to spill diesel on poor visibility bends, for instance...
Yes, I ride quite slow through them to give myself the time to account for whatever might be beyond my visible area.
Yes, I almost always end up being overtaken / tailgated / insert_dangerous_stunt_here mid corner by the guy in the car behind me, the one that doesn't give a toss if one of his wheels loses traction.

Had a major moment on a roundabout yesterday.
Hit a patch of disel. Lost all grip and slid sideways about a foot.
However using all my years of experiance and consumate skill I maintained control and continued on without incident.
How?
Cause I was in a fecking car!
If i had been on the SV This post would have been about all my aches and pains and there would be another one on "Stuff Wanted".

I agree, to some extent, that it's partly an observation issue. The typical spills are visible and avoidable... But that doesn't mean I'm going to say anyone that crashes on diesel should have seen it, it's not always that visible.
One thing to add is that not everything rainbow-like and oily-looking on the road is diesel. Some people think the slippyness is exaggerated because they think they've ridden over it loads of times, when in fact it was a petrol spill.

diesel has a very very distinct smell to it

Hehe, like you're going to sniff it. If there's enough diesel to smell it then run, something big an usually filled with diesel has broken.

Light? I've had an off on diesel at 6am on a dark winters morning, put it down to mixture of slippery road surface and wet at the time, until later that day when i used same roundabout in a car and saw "the rainbow".
luckily i was riding the divvy (aka the tank) at the time and other than a few scratches it was fine!
