Choosing a new Helmet

I have a Caberg flip face lid but find it a bit uncomfortable and noisy on longer journeys and want a closed face lid.

I have narrowed my search down to 4 lids and would appreciate any feed back.

AGV Stealth (nice comfortable fit) £150-£179
Nolan N84 (as comfortable as the AGV) £150-£160
Schuberth QM1 (never tried one on) £129
OGK FF-4 HELMET (never tried one on) £99

I am on a limited budget so £179 is the max I can spend.

To be honest, the only lid I would buy in that sort of price range is the Arai SV, which is about £200. I can understand that you're on a budget, BUT your lid is the most important part of your riding gear. It needs to be comfortable as well as a great protector, plus you need to be able to wear it for long periods.

Sell your mother to get the best you can afford :lol:

Arai or Shoei.

My missus has a raidII and is a quality lid that LASTS, for under £200. SV is a good shout as well. Cheaper lids linnings can go "loose" after a year or so. There is a good reason why folk say these two brands are miles ahead. Push the boat out for one and you will not regret it. "What price of head have you got?" is the oft repeated adage.

I would rather have a loud good quality lid (and wear earplugs ) than some quiet plastic ****ter .

Don't bother with the OGK. My brother had one. Complete bag o ****e. Bits kept dropping off it.

yea im on a budget when it come to gear but i spend £250 on a Raid 2 (was a tart and got graphics hense extra)

dont try to save money when it comes to your head. it like when a bike manufactuer save money on brakes :shock:

Show season starts soon....why don't you wait 4-6 weeks and pick yourself up a bargain! Say at the BMF show...or MCN....or some shows?

I bought a Shoei XR-1000 Silver last year from the Alexandra Palace and it cost me £160. Thats nearly £100 off.

I've thnking of buying an Arai RX-7 at £400 so its not always cheap shopping for lids ;-)

I've used an arai SV every day for almost 2 years now. It's fine and nothing has broken etc. It's got a few scuffs here and there but what do you expect. I would agree about the bike show idea though!

If you follow the link above and search through the helmet section you'll see that They have a lot of lids on sale.
One word of advice if you do buy a reduced price lid is to check the year it was made, you should find the date of manafacture under the lining inside the lid.

Often retailers will reduce the price of lids if they have had them sitting around for a while, and I mean a couple of years. It is not uncommon when checking the date of production to find the lid is already 3+ years old. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with this but it is suggested by some that a lid of 5 years + is past it's best as they will degrade whether they have been worn or not.

I don't suggest this is gospel but it's advice I have been given in the past.

Please don't flame me I'm just passing on some information I have found useful in the past.

Thanks for all your feed back. I decided to go for the Schuberth as I got a deal that was too hard to say no to.

Its ruddy fantastic so light its not true 1.3kg. In a cloth bag in a box thats was in a bigger box it was only 100g more than my Caberg. The fit is extreamly almost better than the shoei XR1000 and much better than the AGV. The built quality is well erm German. Not too loud either.

Bad point is the visor steams up easily but as I fitted a Fog City Hyper Optiks visor 20 mins after taking out the box so thats not a problem.

All in all I would have been happy to pay the £300 (if I had it) that this helmet was listed at or even the £120 I saw it for but for £80 +p&p you just can't get a better Lid!
