I have a Caberg flip face lid but find it a bit uncomfortable and noisy on longer journeys and want a closed face lid.

I have narrowed my search down to 4 lids and would appreciate any feed back.

AGV Stealth (nice comfortable fit) £150-£179
Nolan N84 (as comfortable as the AGV) £150-£160
Schuberth QM1 (never tried one on) £129
OGK FF-4 HELMET (never tried one on) £99

I am on a limited budget so £179 is the max I can spend.
I have posted this in the helmets section but that seems to be more for reviews more than buying advice.

Sorry mate I can't help, but didn't want to see you get no replies!

I recently bought a Shoei Raid for 200euros which I personally thought was an absolute bargain! 8)

I have a Shoei Raid also. It's a great lid, my only misgiving is the weight - a bit heavy at 1.5kg.

Of those you list I'd go for the AGV.

I've got an AGV XR-2, comfy in all the right places, easy to do up and undo etc. The only criticism I have about this one, which I guess is difficult to test on any helmet, is it's ability to de-mist...poor in the rain...have to keep pooping the visor up a notch for a minute or two...otherwise for 170 quid it does the job for me.

Have you tried them all on :?: This may narrow down your choice even further. Fit is most important to me. My last 2 helmets have been HJC, simply because I can't find another brand that suits my head shape so well :!: Preferably, go to a large supplier like J&S where you will probably be able to try several brands under one roof.

Ive got the Caberg V2 lid - only 99 quid ( i even managed to get the one with graphics for that price as the dealer had listed it wrong on Ebay ).

Good lid.

I like the look of those... 'specially with the flip down inner visor :!:

If you colud stretch to £199 the Shoei XR1000 can be had superb light helmet with a good anti-mist system.

Does anyone use Simpson lids here?

They look the dogs dangleys.

Sell a kidney. Buy the lid. Frighten people. Nuff said.

Having said that, I know a girl who has the Nolan N84. She really likes it. (She leant my gf it and she liked it a lot too.) But, thats the only one on the list I have heard anything about at all.

At the top of your price range, you should be able to get a quality lid, rather than a 'budget' lid. My Shoei Raid is the first quality lid I've owned. I'd previously had cheaper lids and, believe me, it makes a difference. Mine's due for replacement and the only question is whether to go for a Raid 2 or an XR-1000.

You can get a Raid 2 for £179, which is almost certainly a better lid for your money than any on your list:

Cheers guys.

I almost went for the Schuberth as I have heard really good things about them. I think after reading what you have had to say, I'll wait a few month and go for a XR-1000. I want something light and quiet and I cant find enough reviews on the QM-1 to says if its quiet or not but it is very light 1350g.

Like I said I have a 6 month old Caberg but the fit is just not 100% it presses against my forehead on long rides, plus its 1870g so not the lightest hat I've ever had on.

I have a Schuberth Concept, and it's worth every penny
I tried the Caberg, and by comparison it felt really cheap/flimsy & was uncomfortable. The Schuberth was twice the price however, so I guess you pay your money & take your choice.

Try them all on before deciding

Simpson's are pretty cool! I noticed last year there was a stall at the Birmingham NEC show so i'll save my pennies and probably buy a bandit. I think the outlaw is better - like the smaller, fitted lense and those aerodynamic ripples - but they're not road legal. Still the Don!

Odd that Ed was concerned about the weight of his Shoei raid. The numbers mean nothing to me,the fit is perfect ,like a glove,(which is a pity when I wanted a helmet! :P ) I can't say that the weight of the Shoei feels a burden at all. In fact I am extremely pleased with it.

I'm guessing that his is a Raid I and your is a Raid 2. There's a considerable difference in weight. The Raid 2 is much lighter - about the same as an XR1000.

i chose not to vote, as it all depends on what helmet you prefer.

personally i hate AGV's. Shoe, Arai helmets, they all seem a loose fit,

i prefer my KBC helmet, the padding inside is thick and hugs your face.

i had a nolan helmet when i first started riding, it was great,
only trouble with it was the visor kept steaming up, but it was only 30 quid.

BTW, ive tried the caberg and hated it too.
was exactly how you described it.

Diveboy

I'll have to try a KBC in that case sounds like your head might be the same shape.
Did you get dropped as a child too? :?

I have a Roof Le-Mans lid. The most snug fit I found.

I've got a issue of superbike where they tested about 20 lids ranging from the raid 2 to the Arai RX7 etc.

The raid 2 was the cheapest and lightest lid on the test!

A little change of plan. I've just ordered the Schuberth QM-1. Never tried it on so its a bit of a gamble. I managed to get a brand new black and silver one for the grand total of £80 delivered to my door, so could'nt resist. I found it on a german website.

If it doesnt fit right, I should be able to get my money back on ebay if nothing else.

Well it arrived today from Germany.

Its ruddy fantastic so light its not true 1.3kg. In a cloth bag in a box thats was in a bigger box it was only 100g more than my Caberg. The fit is extreamly almost better than the shoei XR1000 and much better than the AGV. The built quality is well erm German. Not too loud either.

Bad point is the visor steams up easily but as I fitted a Fog City Hyper Optiks visor 20 mins after taking out the box so thats not a problem.

All in all I would have been happy to pay the £300 (if I had it) that this helmet was listed at or even the £120 I saw it for but for £80 +p&p you just can't get a better Lid!

oh yeah sorry. http://www.motowebshop.com/en its a little strange as they ask for bank transfer not credit card. I ordered and when I got the email contacted them about using paypal. Not a problem and quite a friendly lot.

Posted on the 16th arrived today. There seemed to be a few bargains on the site so i'll be ordering again.

Must say I was a little worried at first ordering from them, but the helmet is here and i'm chuffed to bits.

Where can you get an XR1000 for £199? I though they were nearer the £350 mark.

You can get a plain xr1000 on eBay for 200 - and they had all sizes when I looked.

I have and AGV stealth and am very happy with it. It is very comfortable and light. It also looks sweet in matt black with a tinted visor - streek hawk style!
