View Full Version : Restricted 99 SV feeling bogged down.

Hi folks, I have a 99 SV650s with a restrictor kit that I think was made by FI international.

The problem i'm having is the top speed tends to vary hugely depending on what day it is! There have been times when the bike gets up to about 98ish MPH and wont go any faster (which is perfectly fine and more then enough) and other times when I am really struggling to get over 75MPH.

I only weight about 9.5 stone so I think my fastest is still a bit too slow but like I said thats quick enough. Both times I have had a huge 50L rucksack on my back which I think was stopping it from going over 100 possibly.

The 75Mph max day was today, it was windy but surely a bit of wind doesn't knock 20MPH off the top end of a restricted bike. I am very tempted to remove the restriction just to be assured that the bike will do over 80 when I want it to on the motorway!

I really don't want to remove the restriction as i'd really like to keep it in, but as it stands its barely quicker then my old 2 stroke 125. As far as the restriction goes would it be possible to modify it so that rather then being 33bhp it was marginally more? Something where if things came down to it I might get away with it through an inspection? Really all i'm after is to be assured it will do 80-90 when I need it to on the motorway regardless of how windy it is (within reason).

Any input would be appreciated.

Was it about a 15-20mph wind?? If so mystery solved!! ;)

I presume the bike is restricted because you have a restricted licence? If so tampering with it from a legal standpoint is v-naughty!! Do you know how it is restricted?

Unfortunately I have no clue which method of restriction is in use. I shall take a look arround to see if I have the certificate anywhere.

It is a curvy but I doubt it has an official suzuki kit in it.

My bike has the FI international restriction, and it's washers if that helps.

leave it in! and be assured! it will do 110mph and still have grunt when derestricted!

I'm probably showing my ignorance here but if its restricted with washers can I not simply modify them for example making a hole bigger or something to increase the BHP slightly without being silly about it?

What would be the point :?: If you bike pushes out 40BHP instead of 33BHP, you'll still get done :!:

IMHO, leave it until you can legally de-restrict it :!:

From the symptoms you describe it might be something else, needs a good looking at, possibly dynoing :?: 'IBZ'/'Besty' (haven't seen him on here for ages,) used to have a restricted bike & he was like the proverbial poop off a shovel :!:
