Yup at long last some motor racing on normal tv (i dont have sky or freeview so ive missed the racing so far).

Cant wait! Farrari have an entire front row, pole and 2nd. Looks like they're finally back into the picture after last years terrible performance.

Our very own Jenson BUtton in 3rd - be interesting to see how he does.

Would it be rude of me to suggest that I doubt he will do enough for anyone to then feel the money he has, and continues to earn from F1 is justified?

*runs for cover from the F1 fans!* :P

Qualifying was certainly more interesting than normal anyway, hopeful for the race

Very impressed with young Rosberg.
Good race, quite exiciting reallty.

When I watch F1 I often wander off and do other things.

When I watch bike racing I'm glued to the TV on the edge of my seat, talking is only allowed in the living room during advert breaks.

He could win the race in reverse, then cure poverty, and he'd still be overpaid ;)

I stand corrected :D I'd not seen this film for probably about 20 years and forgot how good it was.

I think this film very much influenced the 1971 (checked that one  ) film Le Mans in terms of style.

I used to be (and still am) a massive F1 fan. I remember in days of old, Senna, Prost and Mansell fighting wheel to wheel all the way through a race. Fantastic and riveting tv viewing.

Over the past ten years it has got duller and duller. I think the death of Ayrton Senna at the San Morino GP and Roland Ratzenburger at Imola both in 1994 was the deciding factor that the sport had passed the boundaries of safety. Because of these tragic deaths, there was no option but to make the sport safer. Unfortunately this has taken the competitive edge from the sport and made it a much less interesting event.

Still, I watch it every season and hope upon hopes that the new rules and regulations that have been introduced will make it more competitive and compelling watching again.

The new qualifying rules has certainly made that part of the racing more interesting, which can only be a good thing. As for the race itself, it was more entertaining than of late. If the rest of the season should produce more of the same, then I think it will be better than it has been over the past few years.

The reduction of 10 cylinders to 8 was a great move and (by what has been so far) has produced more competitiveness this year. What I would really love to see, is the banning of traction control. Leave the driving to the drivers and not electronics.

It is a great film, I could watch a whole film of just the action sequences, I agree Lem Mans was influenced by that film, both are great IMHO

Bigape I totally agree, ban driver aids completely. I'd also like to see a return to multi engine format, you cant beat the spine tingling rasp of a Ferrari V12 and also as Jonboy says big fat slicks.

Trouble with that though is that the cars would again become too fast for the tracks. This was the problem before. We don't need more speed, we just need more of the teams to be comparative to each other.

As it stands at the moment, the cars are so dependant on the electronics and aerodynamics to drive the cars at speed that overtaking becomes impossible. At the moment, when a faster car comes up behind one that is a few horse power down, they still can not overtake. As soon as they get close enough to the car in front to make an overtake manoeuvre they loose down force because of the dirty air behind the car in front. The cars are so reliant on this down force to drive the car, that it becomes impossible to drive without it. This is why there is no overtaking.

Talking of overtaking, or lack of it. Get rid of Monaco. Crap racing. That race is just a showboat for the rich and famous. The racing (if you can call it that) is just a procession of fast cars. The only time anyone moves up or down the order is due to retirement through car failure or a crash.

I think that multi engine formats woudl work, you could have weight penalities as in MotoGP or have different Capacity limits as in WSB.

I think otherwise you have it pretty spot on, reduce downforce, increase mechanical grip with slicks ( groved tyres just look wrong as well ) ban carbon brakes, that way you'd increase braking distances and IMHO give more chance for overtaking on the way into corners and also bring back manual gear change.

I'm not so sure about Monaco its one of my favourite tracks, I love the idea of driving an F1 car on normal streets. But I think the crying shame of this years racing is going to be no Spa, thats another of my favourite tracks to.

Possibly, but it wouldn't be long before we have the same in F1 as we had in Superbikes. Ductati's were winning everything because, after progression, the twins were out performing the IL4's in all area's.

Indeed this is a possible way to go. However, on the other hand F1 is meant to be the pinacle of 4 wheel racing. Much the same as MotoGP. It would seem a little odd to be going so far backwards to be good again. Still agree with you all the same, just don't see it happening.

Montreal is also a road racing circuit, and at least on this track there is the opertunity to race and overtake.

Agree about no Spa, that is indeed truely sad. I'm sure that Spa is a favourite for the majority of the current drivers.

What's p*ss*ng me off is they're banning classic circuits in the name of safety (Estoril has been considered by many as the best in past seasons), yet they continue to use Monaco. I agree that Monaco is one of F1's symbols, I myself have some sort of a thing going for it, but it's completely outdated, and as far as safety is concerned... hell, a couple of years ago the cars couldn't even leave the pits with all 4 wheels on the ground! There isn't a single corner where you won't hit the wall if you screw up!

About Spa... to me, ending Spa (again in the name of safety) puts the first nail on F1's coffin. Safety?... Financial, maybe...
