Hi all, anyone know what the minimum requirements for a daylight mot are?
Cheers,

I was watching Bike Cops UK a while back , where there pulled over a lad who was returning from a track day, he had no lights no mirrors, legal-ish exhaust, reg plate, but a loophole in the system meant he was legal as long as he was riding between an hour after dawn and an hour before dusk
But the police kept him waiting for the vehicle inspectorate (it was him who mentioned the above) to turn up then he had to find a room and stop over till morning
But hope the link sheds some light on it
Providing all the mechanical bits are in order (brakes suspension etc)
Basically you need a "constant tone audible warning" (horn) and a legal numberplate.
You might need a speedo as well but I'm not sure (good idea anyway)

can't find anything about having a brake light, i'm sure it's a legal requirement.
No don't need one (brake light) I looked into this last year when thinking about making by trials bike road legal.
Have you tried giving your loacl bike MOT station a ring as (hopefully) they would know for sure.

You can take the mick with MOTs really, no lights, no indicators, no mirrors etc.

Indicators are needed if the switchgear has turn switch.
Well that was what i was told or something on that line.

Is that "on a stock version of your model of bike" or only if you don't remove the switch (fiddly, I know)? I've seen an R1 that had a race fairing, no lights other than a brake light and no indicators on the road. I've also seen a couple of crusiers without indicators.
a brake light and indicators may not be needed by law but ask yourself would you feel safe riding without these on your bike?

I thought it was if it had the wiring for them...
a brake light and indicators may not be needed by law . . .
So that's hand signals then, and not just the usual ones.

This question crops up regularly. Never the same answer! I've spent several evenings scouring the net for the definitve list of what you must have - all to no avail. GRrrrrr!
Remember that MOT requirement and LEGAL requirement are not one and the same.
Stop lamp issues for MOT.
For this test if a stop lamp is fitted, it must meet the requirements of this inspection, but need not be fitted to a machine which:
a. cannot exceed 25mph, or
b. was first used before 1 January I936.or
c. was first used before 1 April 1986 and which has an engine capacity of less than 50cc.
Operation-
Stop lamps may operate in conjunction with either the front or the rear brake, or both. On machines first used on or after 1 April 1986, the stop lamps must operate by the application of each system.
From this I'd say you need a brake light, operating with front and rear systems.
You definitely need a horn and speedo too. Headlight, indy's, tail light and parking (side) light are not required for daylight MOT's. And your pukka knobbly tyres are a no-no.
Also, as it's an off-road bike, you can't carry a pillion. :?
