View Full Version : Brake overhaul
I've just cleaned up my pistons as they were binding onto the discs, but I ended up reusing the seals and slightly :? damaging one of the pistons. How much am I looking at for replacement seals, front and rear, and a new piston?

I got prices for the seals when before i pulled all my brake system apart and to be honest for a few washers i was shocked at the price
Front Caliper Seal kits £12.64 inc vat per caliper
Rear Caliper Sael Kits £21.19 inc vat
I got away with using the front seals again as only the dust seals that showed any real signs of wear and tear but needed new rear set :(
Not sure on the piston price but for a wild guess going by dealer prices I would imagine £20 a piston but like I say im purely guessing on that
how much do new calipers cost, I have discovered it's a waste of time & money to rebuilt them, New SV calipers are relatively cheap (in the US)
Decent secondhand calipers can be got for £30-£35 from breakers. Looking at around £120 each for aftermarket brand new.
Why are the rear seals more expensive? There's the same number of them as the front :? I think I'll get the front, and clean up the back without removing the pistons. It might have to be that way anyway, cause I have to disconnect the hose to get the right mounting bolt off.
Rear Pistons are larger than the front, plus there is a seal between the 2 halves of the caliper whic is probably accounting for some of the extra.
Never felt the need to replace a caliper as they really don't tend to wear, if you buy 2nd hand ones you run the risk of picking up a set in the same condition or worse than yours, better to spend an hour or so to do a propper strip, clean, grease & rebuild IMHO.
Pattern parts are your friends, you can get non Susuki seals & pistons for less than the OE kit.
