Hamicad and huggers

Hey, how necessary is a rear hugger if your going to get a tail tidy? I don't mind my bike needing a clean after a ride within reason? It's just the OEM huggers are damn expensive and I don't think they do much for the looks.

Am pretty sure if i never had a hugger my bike would look quite a bit more dirty after rides. I have the oem hugger and to me it looks real good :D

I'd get a hugger even without the tail tidy, if keeps the crud off your rear shock and that general area is a b*gger to get at to clean.

A hugger and the rear fender do two different things.
A hugger keeps crap off of the shock and could potentially keep the undertray clean.
The rear fender reduces the amount of spray coming off the back of the bike and helps to stop it coming up and over onto the pillion.

ive noticed that since ive put my R&G tail tidy on the rear brake lights keep getting cover'ed with crap! mmmm thats what the snow shovel's job was. :?

I'll just have to dig deep in my pocket and clean her after I ride when I get the tail tidy. :roll:

Any recomendations on huggers cos I've just phoned for a price on a OEM and its just short of £150 which I thought was a bit steep!

Seconded. A rear fender stops your pillion getting a "Skunk's tail" of spray from water and dirt off the road, particularly when it's raining. This is the reason why whilst my SV is still a bike used in all weather and occassionally with a pillion, that I was so keen to keep my snow plough (even though my first one broke so it would have been an opportunity to change to a hamicad).

The hugger is more to keep your undertray/rear shock clean, although my experience of the official suzuki hugger is that it doesn't make an awful lot of difference (compared to the stock tiny bit of black plastic on the swingarm) and if you don't think huggers do much for the looks and are buying from a practical POV, I think you'll be disappointed.

The rear fender doesnt just keep your pillions back clean. I frequently get a muddy back when not carrying a pilion since i fitted my undertray :oops:

Cheers, Well I dont take pillions as its far to much responsibility!! So I dont mind a bit of spray. The cost of the hugger I could almost get a bellypan so cheers for the advise and I'll rely on the toolbag box thing to stop some spray!
