Seeing the interest in Popham on the site, I thought I would now create this thread.

Every month we have an SV meet at Popham Airfield - 2nd Sunday of the Month.

This initially started out as a SV1000 meet, but it would be great to see loads of all the SV's there!

Popham is found here : Multimap link (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=453000&Y=144000&width=500&height=310&client=public&gride=&gridn=&keepicon=false&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&lang=&scale=25000)
It is just off of the A303, about 5 mins west of Basingstoke.

The Airfield manager is a massive bike fan himself, and welcomes all types of bikes, new and old. His only request is that we respect that it is a family airfield, and be careful whilst riding down the road, and please, no burnouts! We all meet at the Clubhouse, which is at the end of the road.

www.popham-airfield.co.uk On this link you will find all directions to get to the airfield, and also a sub-section for motorbikes.

Also to add, there's a great little canteen there, with hot food & drink available (bacon butties in the morning!)

Anyways, next meet is on the 9th April, hope to see you there!

This is indeed a great venue.

The cafe does lovely cakes aswell as bacon sarnies.

Plenty of parking for bikes, even when the ducati club turns up - some very nice Peter Henry Bling there.

Everyone there is really friendly - even the goose

I won't be able to make it till after June, but that sounds like something I'll be up for.
Also, just down the road from Micheldever Tyres, pity about the no burnouts rule cos that would have been convenient to make good use of the last of a tyre.

:D Haven't seen the goose this year yet! It really is hilarious! Past couple of months, the SVs have definitely been outnumbering the Dukes.....too cold for 'em, bless! Look forward to seeing you there!

LOL, yeah I know. But you can always drop your bike off, then hitch a lift to Popham!

Incidentally, if you're approaching from the East, the Salisbury planes on the approach to the airfield are excellent for "high speed testing" your bike.

Very open, so nowhere for the police to hide, very few turnings onto the road, just the occassional "tank crossing" to watch out for. :D

With the combination of Dukes and SVs and Gixxers, there were prob about 25 bikes there. Maybe more. Will try and work out how to attach pictures!!

First time we had fair weather really, but I know a couple of the SW'ers got into a bit of a massive hailstorm.

Was a good meetup, and some peeps went for a rideout to Portsdown Hill afterwards.

Hope to see you all next month!

Yes, a good run out and a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. Met the SV1000 lot and had a chat, signed up for their rideout to the Cotswolds in June, should be a bit of a giggle.

Came back on the A339, A32 and the Morestead road to Winchester and home in time for the GP (better than sleeping pills for sending me to sleep on a sunday pm)
