Hi, I need to check my clutch plates and probably change them but am not very experienced with the technical stuff (wasnt even able to remove the clutch cover!) so would very much appreciate some advice. Have tried searching but only managed to find info related to the earlier SV650s models. Am determined to do this myself so could you please, in as much detail as possible, explain how to check/change the clutch plates for the k5 SV650s?

Thanks

Changing the clutch plates already on a K5? Surely they existing one's can't be sh*gged so soon?(Note the cunning use of a highly technical term in that sentence?)

I would think that this advice is generic enough for both the curvy and the pointy but I am sure that I will be corrected if this is not the case.

The manual for the pointy is here. It is for the 03 but there should be very little differences between this and the K5 especially in the clutch/engine area.

Thanks for that mate. I think the main difference is having to deal with the water pump with the pointy.

When I tried, I removed all the bolts specified in the manual (Engine 3-31) but still the clutch cover wouldnt come off. Got a bit annoyed and started pulling harder, at which point some liquid (coolant?) started oozing out of the water pump case. I stopped after this. Does anyone know why the clutch cover wasnt coming off?

Get a Haynes Manual

Looking at the front of that haynes, it looks like the clutch cover is one piece and not 2 like the curveys. I would suggest then, that its a collant drain and most possibly an oil drain. As said, get a Haynes, and all will becoem clear. :D

The actual changing of the clutch is well easy.
