Following scandalous allagations stating once again that the SV is a "Girls Bike" I have decided to do this poll to put this to bed once and for all.

This very question has plagued me since someone implied I bought a girls bike ... funnily enough he owns a gixer thou!! :D

Anyway, even if people gave honest responses, I don’t think the results from this survey is going to give a meaningful answer as it will be warped by the male to female biker ratio.

A more valid thing would be to make a poll on a general biker forum and ask for females to vote if they own a SV or not (no point on here as the chances of being a SV owner again are warped) … so we are looking for the fact if you are a gurl would/do you own a SV? I don’t know where to set the threshold, but I’s say if more than 30% of burds own SVs then girls bike it is and I need to go see my doctor for a chromosome check!!!! :D

Anyone a member of BCF or summin and wanna post a poll on there, and give a link to that post on here?? :)

I'm a girl and i've got 2 SV's i hope that doesn't mean i'm ruining the ratio and putting it more in favour of being regarded as a girls bike.

Anyway, I was reliably informed that a girls bike is something that is a 400, so anything higher is a mans bike. Therefore, the SV cannot be considered a girl's bike. :D

Or is it a case that anything that looks good has to be a girls bike because a man's bike can only be something that is held together by black tape and looks like its never been cleaned?

The lack of a centre stand is both highly annoying and I've *heard* is because they didn't think girls could put it up on one!? So that bit is girly. (If true)

But then again, I find the height and position much more suited to men (I'm 6 foot 1) than say a gsxf-750 that I tried that had me hunched up and my knees knocking on the fairings. So in that respect it seems suited to men.

My next door neighbour is a girl and she has one. She is very short, and has dropped it a few times cos she can't get her feet properly down as comfortably as I can, but she looks good on it!

I think its a man's bike to be honest cos of the seat height, but I wish they'd included a centre stand.

In which case every sports bike out there is a girl's bike

Generally they are removed to save weight and for ground clearance. Me? I don't have one but fail to see them as girly bikes or men's bikes. It's a decent bike that does a hell of a lot of things for a hell of a lot of people, if you paint it pink, well then it's hard to call it manly, but if you want to see how girly it is, go see the times being posted by the minitwins racers... waaaaay out of my league! 8)

Ahh, well the GSXR1000 K6 is a mere 166kg to the SV's 169kg, so the gixer is a more gurly bike. Now we have the upper hand, let's slag 'em off instead! :laughat:

As some people have taken this a little more seriously than intended  I though I'd do a little research.

From the statistics I have been able to find the female biker population make up anywhere between 15-20% of bikers in the UK.

So at 16% female for the poll the SV has a male/female ownership ratio proportional to the UK as a whole.

Not a girls bike then, just a great little bike that can be enjoyed by a lot different riders regardless of sex (and quite a few other things).

We are back to the issue of whether the SV is a Full-on motorcycle or not.

Because it doesn't have 160 bhp or do 190mph, it is seen as lacking, a bit limp, not full blooded...thus 'girly'. Although the SV is not as easy to ride as other bikes I have ridden and needs some ability to get the best out of it.

Is the SV 'girly'??? Bothered???

if its not seat height and its not weight it must be because the power output is user friendly and you know its not going to turn around and bite you.

A 400 has more of that. Is the Hornet and Fazer and Bandit considered Girly?

Maybe it's the name...The SV needs a name that says 'macho'

Mustang or Thunderbolt or Stallion or Charger or Firebird or Phantom.

Something silly like that...My SV650S Deathbringer girly?

What the definition of girlie.? :?

To me a girlie girl wouldn't ride a bike cos she couldn't get her nails in the gloves her make up would smudge and her hair would be ruined they also wouldn't do the right shade of pink?

The best bit about owning a girly bike is when you beat someone on a Real Man's Bike. The R1 guy at Knockhill that was holding up Ianofbhills, or the 600cc guys I left in my wake, must feel especially stupid ;) Nobody expects anything of the SV, so whatever you do surprises people- much better than being slow on a GSXR.

Our chief weapon is light weight...light weight and handling...handling and light weight....

Our two weapons are handling and light weight...

and mid-range torque....

Our *three* weapons are handling, light weight, and mid-range torque

...and an almost fanatical devotion to the v-twin

.... Our *four*...no...

*Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as handling, light weight....

I'll come in again...

I wanted a new Gixer, but couldn't afford it, so went for the new SV instead. Why do people say its a girl's bike. I don't understand that. Doesn't it have handlebars, an engine and two wheels just like any other sportie typie motorbikeee ???

Just to cause more arguments -

What the definition of girlie.? :?

To me a girlie girl wouldn't ride a bike cos she couldn't get her nails in the gloves her make up would smudge and her hair would be ruined they also wouldn't do the right shade of pink?
Dont wanna offend any of the ladies on the site but how many of us would say that we are girlie??

I'm off to get my coat before the flak comes

My friends say I'm a girlie girl. Wear a bitta make-up, wear girlie clothes (don't have nails tho). People usually look shocked when I say I ride a motorbike which I'm afraid to say, winds me up

She would just wear a man's gloves, coz the fingers are longer for some reason

her make up would smudge s

Perhaps she would only wear the minimum of makeup

her hair would be ruined

Nope, she'd wear her hair in a snood under her lid

they also wouldn't do the right shade of pink?

Wanna bet

I'm probably more of a girlie girl than I like to admit, I do wear make-up, although don't slap it on, wear girlie clothes, have long nails (all the time). I to get looks of shock and horror when I tell people I ride a bike, winds me up to.

Hmmmmm.....I find it really interesting when people describe something as "girly" as if it is a negative thing!!!! Of course the SV is girly! SHE handles superbly. SHE is (arguably) the best looking bike on the road. SHE gives out a bitta poke when needed (no pun intended). HER mid range torque makes her an ideal road bike. Frankly, I think all you male riders are priveledged to have such a fabulous "girly" bike.

I was sitting on the wall having a brew the other week at devils bridge not actually next to my sv.Two lads got off a gixer thou, the pillion was obviously new to biking as his mate was advising him as what type of bike to go for.Newbie pointed at my bike and said "they are supposed to be pretty good aren't they?" to which he replied "yeah,if you're a woman."Like someone previously said,I love baiting talentless prats with too much money to spend  If it turns out they are **** hot you still have the excuse it's only a little sv 8)
