just had a look at my tyres and noticed there's quite a few small stones embedded into them. I pulled one out and was suprised to see how deep it was and it left a reasonably big hole. Anyway, just wondering if it's a problem, should I leave them in or pull them out?

i take the larger one out & don't worry too much about the smaller ones, u will have this problem more as the weather improves & the roads are warmer making yor tyres softer.

James, I would disagree with you on the summer thing. I've had two punctures in over the winter. Personally I think this is due to all the rubbish and grit and mud washed onto the road by the rain over the winter. I reckon its better in Summer as the cars and lorries sweep the roads clean.

Personally I'd just leave them in and not worry about it to much unless they are absoloutly enourmous.

Note my first puncture was caused by a shard of plastic from a car bumper. I dont know what caused the 2nd one, but whatever it was put a big slit into my rear tyre, and removed a big chunk of my carbon fibre hugger. Both times after I've been riding in or after heavy rain.

More likely to get punctures when it rains as the objects are lubricated and can enter easier!!!

No comments please....

I always remove stones from tyres, big or small if I can see them.If it leaves a cut that will soon wear away, but I don't like the idea of a small object slowly burrowing further into the tyre.

as an asside i always remove all stones regardless of size out of any tyres...

if you do and it goes down.. least u wernt on the bike...

Stones and debry em,beded in tyres can force its way through the beading and cause a blow out... now that would be very nasty...

I disagree with you on that Fizz. Checking the state of your tyres should be a daily thing. Personally, if I have anything stuck in the tyre, I dig it out. I'd rather have a tyre failure during this process than during a ride.

I know it is something that I check daily, I have quick check of the tyres and chain before I hop on the bike, whilst I'm putting my gloves and lid on. Unless theres something huge stuck in the tyre personally I just leave the tiny wee ones where they are.

What you say does make sense though
