Alright people thnkin of taking my advanced bike training course over at bishopbriggs, has anyone done the course and if so did u get a lot out of it!!!! my main concern is that it is run by normal bikers and not by old fuddy duddys who will curb my enthusiam and be more like the old time school teachers who slapped ur hands wi a 12" leather belt for "F"all .... am lookin to keep the fun in it as well as learnin to stay as fast and as safe as i can in different situations...... any thoughts? :D

I joined last year at the show, but a year later and I've basically had nothing but a bill for another year's membership, a few nasty email newsletters, and the book. I'm actually really angry about it, they knew when I joined that they were massievly oversubscribed, but they still took my money... I'd have probably signed up for one of the alternatives if I'd had any idea.

I still think it's a great scheme, and I'm sure I'll be glad for it when we get rolling, it's just the way it's been done so far.

Tigerrrr.......

The other way to do it is to get 1:1 tuition from your friendly bike school, like I did in Edinburgh at City School of Motorcycling (John Underwood).

Had one day's training from John (which was excellent) on a Monday, then practised myself on the Tues/Wed/Thurs, then sat my test on the Friday (passed!).

Do it. It's the best money you'll spend and really improves your riding. Highly recommended.

Good luck, and just ask if you need any further advice.

Cheers.

I'm a full member of the IAM I went with the Glasgow North Group, they're a great bunch of folk...

Come along (its generally at Crow Road (McDonalds car park - not Bishopbriggs)

It all kicks off on the first wednesday of April get there for 6:30 and I can introduce you to the main people...

Northy, Give them grief, Edinburgh IAM are a shambles. its a little far but the Glasgow group organise things differently and you'll always have someone out with you on a wednesday night...

the talky stuff bores me to tears to be honest, but, I should be there as I want to see some of the guys... Don't judge the group by these talks, come along to the actual rides at Crow Road, its less, how do I put it anal!!!

I certainly benefitted from the IAM, Its made me a better rider and more aware of whats going on around me... Probably made me quicker from A to B than I was before...

as careless said the talks are horrendously boring. mostly old car bods go. Just come along to crowe road and meet the guys. I dont make it very often as I dont have a sitter for kids. they are a great bunch all sorts from bikes from wee svs to gsxr1000 and everything in between. £85 is a bargain for unlimited training, books and test fee.

rab just go along to crowe road in april get t here for about 630 and dean will introduce you to the good guys and show you which numpties to avoid. your first time out with them you do not have to pay £85 its a tester. you will need to pay £4 to your observer for petrol though. when you go along there you will get details of talks etc I think they are the 1st thursday in the month or something.

Up grade to who knows what.

Still feel vunerable on the sv but will keep trying. Did see a nice 1/2 faired hornet 600. But i am going to test ride anything and everything i can get my hands on. Definately need a mile muncher!
