Well was going down the road the other day and thought to myself, what woul happen if I flicked my kill switch, and their was a bang! So I looked in my mirror and did i again and I get big massive flame out of my renegade can, Like blue and orange, looks pretty cool -

Question - has this or will this damage the exhaust/the exhaust

I hear wives tales of damage to the packing in the exhaust, as well as urban myths of crunched valves.

but for real evidence? none, and I'm pretty sure one or two can't be all *that* bad

It will damage your bike... just don't do it alot and you should be fine. I've been doing it for years.

Don't do it with a carbon can ;) If there's not much packing in there, it could be the last straw, and burn the carbon. But if your can's well packed, the potential for real damage is, I think, extremely small.

Because,

"If there's not much packing in there, it could be the last straw, and burn the carbon" :)

CF is much more vulnerable to heat damage than any other can material... Titanium being next. And what you're doing here, is causing a fire or small explosion in your end can.

This is also why it's important to stay on top of repacking carbon and ti end cans- carbon can burn up, ti can discolour.

You know you can buy flamer kits? It's a sparkplug for the exhaust, and a cut-out for one of the coils. Basically, push a button and that cylinder stops sparking, and the plug in teh end can starts, causing a better burn and with the engine at close to full power- 30 foot flames can be had apparently  Harder to hide the spark on an external bike can, wouldn't be hard on an underseat though.

Years ago when BT (then the post office) had Morris 1000 vans we used to do that trick :D
ok until you had to explain to the garage why the silencer box had opened up like a tin can

We used to do this all the time in Landrovers - in Northern Ireland.

How we laughed ass people dived for cover as we passed crowded shops

The used to do his bit for winning hearts and minds Patch

A joke of sorts. I stripped my can a few days ago just to see how much packing was left. There wasn't any at all.

I didn't pack mine tight enough last time... Opened it up recently to take out a broken rivet that was annoying me, and found that all the packing was edged in the back half of the can
