Went and saw this last night... I'm still a little undecided if it's demented gnius, or just demented, but it does deserve bonus marks just for flying in the face of so much of the industry's sensibilities... Terrorists as main (and sympathetic) character? UK collapsed into a fascist state? America a "leper colony"? Religious intolerance, or should that be intolerance as a religion?
I'm quite amazed it ever made it into production... Impressed that it's so true to the original without being slavish. And amused by the fact it opened in only a few screens last night up here, we were in one of the bigger ones, and the cinemawas 9/10 empty. It'll shift on DVD though.
Go and see it if you like films that are different or challening. Or also, if you liked the Crow.

I take it this is based on the old DC comics? If so, I'll definately go.

Certainly is. And very closely too, though not exactly. Subplots are pared out, some events are different, and the order's changed, but the bulk of it is as it was.
Alan Moore threw a wobbly and demanded to have his name removed from the film. Nobody can work out why, other than the usual disclaimer of all the best comics writers being knobs.

Be warned, it's not exactly like it... There's similarities- it's very dark, the main character is definately not a morally unambiguous hero, and obviously it's very much a vengeance film. But it's not as action-biased as the crow was. Or even remotely as schamltzy. There's nothing to match the nightclub/fight scene, for example.

My mate said it was excellent, and he is into graphic novels etc. I'd say judging by the recent Sin City, I will certianly enjoy it!

Hmmm. I'm not sure if that's a very accurate generalisation. I'm not into comics, but I used to drink with Pat Mills - who founded 2000AD. He was certainly a very sound bloke. I've read Neil Gaiman's blog and he doesn't sound like a knob either. However, there is a guy that I used to know, who is now becoming a fairly well-known comic writer, who most definitely was a knob.
Anyway, looking forward to V for Vendetta. I has the best trailer that I've seen for some time.

I know, I know, that was a bit careless of me. But then again, Warren Ellis's knob-dom is so great as to counterbalance all those writers who may be, to some extent, not knobs.

Saw it last week at in IMAX. Not my type of film, but enjoyed seeing a flashy big budge film on the big,big screen. Also appreciated the sentiment/comment/slashings and a thorough plot. Did'nt feel to hollywood. Wonder how it did/is doing in USA?

Its worth it for Miss Natalie gorgeous Portman, very politically charged film and certainly makes you think.
