9th April SV Ecosse Run

Basic Run Route: Meet behind Old Inns Shell Garage @ Roadchef Restaurant

Start Roadchef Restaurant (Off A80 behind Shell Garage)
Pickup B802 from Cumbernauld to Kilsyth, then turn onto A891 to Lennoxtown and Strathblane.

Head onto A81, head north to Aberfoyle (A821). Stop in main car pack for ice-cream / coffee /etc. The brave / loonies can use the A821 Dukes Pass to get to Kilmahog. The alternative route to avoid the twisty Dukes Pass is the A81 Port of Menteith road.
There is a pub at the end of the Dukes Pass near Kilmahog, where a marshall can stop and wait for slower riders, etc.

*** Newbies beware the Dukes Pass – blind sharp bends come out of nowhere. TAKE YOUR TIME, DO NOT TRY AND PLAY CATCH UP WITH FASTER RIDERS***

Pick up the A84 at Kilmahog, haul ass north to Lochearnhead. Pick up the A85, head north to Mid Lux. (There is an esso garage called Lix Toll here if you need fuel). At Mid Lux, turn right onto the A827, and head for Aberfeldy along the side of Loch Tay.

Head south down the A826 to Milton. At junction, turn right down the A822 all the way down to Gilmerton. Turn right down the A85 and head into Crieff town centre. (Plenty of parking here if peeps want a coffee break). Pick up A822 southbound which takes you past Strathearn Tyres in Crieff. Stay on A822 all the way (14 miles) back to the A9.

*** The boring dual carriageway / motorway / wind-down section ***

Finish up at Stirling Services on the M9. It’s then easy to head either east to Edinburgh, or west via the M80 back to Glasgow for the westies.

Total trip distance for run – 135 to 150 miles. Meet at Cumbernauld 10am for sharp 10:30am start.

A map plus general directions will be available on the day.

31-03-06, 06:29 PM
Hazel, we aren't going anywhere near Arrochar. :?

If we leave Cumbernauld at 10:30, then we'll be at either Mid Lux or Lochearnhead by around 12:30. (Only if we're hauling ass..)

We could meet up with you there around that time if you wish.

The wind down dual carrageway / motorway section back to Stirling services will drive bikes mad. I'll re-route via Braco to Dunblane & the A9 so we're not motorway bashing for 20+ minutes.

Hope the weather holds for that day...

Here are the forecasts to keep us updated..................

MET Office (http://www.meto.gov.uk/lib/includes/fsssi/city/glasgow.html)

BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=0006)

Doesn't look too good - bugger. I only hope the outlook is nicer for the egg run.

jimmy4237
07-04-06, 07:17 PM
How come every b*st*rd run I try and arrange goes tits up due to the weather  We'll see who turns up, but knowing our crew, if it's miserable weather, it'll probably be only a few brave souls.

If it looks too bad when the brave souls meet at Cumbernauld, then it's cancelled for a better weekend Sunday...... we'll discuss it over a coffee at the Little Chef.

That's why I asked for everyone's mobile so I know who's going to appear or not...

Bl**dy weather :!:

The weather looks not too bad actually, have been out in much much worse than whats predicted

Remember a few runs back when we met at Kinross, it was absolutely chuckin it down and was windy / cold(ish) as well

Nobody even passed comment, after all, we take what we can up here in the northern hemisphere

I'll be there anyway, see you all Sunday

Just thinking (Yes its unusual) that it may not be wise to use the dukes pass tomorrow, Its hardly ever gritted and there’s a really good chance that there may be ice on it as half of it will have been out of what little sun we’ve had recently… How ever much I love the road I just dunno if its particularly wise…

I got home just in time for a major snow storm dumping it's load in Hamilton.

Yo chaps, as svtony said, met him at the petrol station (passed abby & garry and a couple of others in the blizzard.

had to stop and check up on the lady I was talkin to at that pub, she's been off with stress so it was nice to catch up with her, thats what kept me, apart from takin the wrong turn across country to St Fillians (or sumthin like that), headed bact to the main road then met svtony.

Fuelled up then headed for Crianlarich then back to Mid Lix and onto Aberfeldy, by this time the sun was oot and it was really warm.

Carried on down to Crieff then stopped at Stirling services for a quick coffee then back to sunny Carluke.

Scrubbed wee Suzy doll (gleamin now :D ) and put her too bed, jeeze, I love that bike  ,sad or whit !

Anyway, Jimmy, well done mate, that was an excellent route

Nice meetin up with you all again

See you all next week

Glad you made it back in one piece Robert

When I left you it was a blizzard until I got to Strathyre

I got some strange looks as I rode into Callander looking like a snowman on a bike.

We'll do that run again sometime, but only when it's a lot warmer, and not flaming snowing :!:

I went back to Crieff (after I lost dad in the snow at Lochearnhead)
After 3 mile down the A822 Lochearnhead to Crieff road, it was dry as a bone!!! Just before Crieff, two motorbike cops were pulling bikers into the layby for a safety chat. One boy on an R1 was given a ticket for his small plate

I rode by the cops as they were busy with two bikes. They looked round when they heard my scorpions blaring past them  Thought I was going to get a chase and pullover for a bike inspection. Thankfully they didn't bother :D

I stopped in Crieff with a bunch of bikes (including the 4 who were stopped). The boy who got the ticket was told by plod that the police are going to be doing a major clampdown in the trossachs /argyle / strathclyde on bikers. Namely on road safety, speeding & race cans :( . Not to mention small plates....

You have been warned. Time to buy a legal plate and a rear reflector

Good to see the good turnout on Sunday. Things were great till it started snowing.

Good route too, that duke's pass is a bit mental though

Looking forward to the next one.

Yeah, turned out I had done the Duke's before, only this time it was a bit more fun than in my girlfriend's 800cc Daewoo (car)
