OK, clear your weekend and give your car/bike/dog/lawn/etc a good wash - hosepipe ban starts in many areas on 3rd April :(

I wonder how many folks are going to get a rain-butt? I'm certainly considering it. It will fill up of course, which will then get you thinking "well how come there's a hose-pipe ban?"... :?

I'm thinking about a water butt - not sure you can fit them to the type of drainpipe which we have, but you could still fix up some sort of collector to it.

It's actually a bit annoying that I can't water my veggies using a hose because they're in a 'private garden' rather than an 'allotment'. I'll end up using the same about of water but just taking twice as long!! Also, how come commercial companies can still wash their cars, etc using a hosepipe but I can't use one to grow food??

wots the actul penalty if you get caught? my gf works as a gardender for millionares and they wont have there grass going yellow so she will have to use them or lose her job,

also i think its a bit silly all the water companys shud just fix there pipes!

I have 6ft fences and a hose at the end of the garden that goes into my garage/car port area which has a large up & over door. I could clean my bikes and nobody know if it were with a hose or bucket....

But the 'Blade needs a clean after a full day of riding in the rain yesterday, so I'll probably do it today.

No hosepipe ban in that apparent grim north!! I'll just wait till I'm home in Middlesbrough! :D

We've had a hosepipe ban in Sutton since the start of this month :hackedoff:

I wanted to get my enormous paddling pool out this summer, but won't be able to fill it now. I've heard that my water authority are going to apply for an emergency drought order (or something similar) that will stop all sorts of water usage, presumably including commercial carwashes and also the use of buckets for washing cars/bikes, and they have plans for standpipes

I saw in the Metro that the fine for using a hosepipe was £1,000 :hackedoff:

I don't think I'll risk it

Great, I'll be selling rain @5p a drop.

Make your way up here now, it's teeming down.

It's all about utilisation. Obviously all the rain is just evaporating and not being used or collected. Maybe we should stop drinking too!

It's rained lots here over the past 3 months.

I think the nosey neighbours can report you and then you get fined. Lots.

They put marbles in the water pipes - they are too big to go into your taps, however just the right size to go into your hosepipe when you use it. They then get stuck, which leads to a build up of pressure, ultimately cracking the mains pipe which floods your house.

When they stop the hosepipe ban, they reverse the pumps at the water station so that all the marbles are sucked back and put back in the jar until next year.

Up here, they send around an Enforcer who waits till you next use your hosepipe, then sneaks in and kinks it. As soon as you look down the hose, they unkink it, leading to a classic British comedy soaking. Doesn't sound too bad, but after 20 or 30 times it gets pretty annoying. Takes ages to water a decent sized lawn.
