Continuing a run of annoying PC questions...
Almost certainyl buying an XFX 7600GT graphics card for the new PC. Now, these things come in about 4 flavours of factory overclockedness, each more expensive than the last. Just wondered what the merit is of factory clocking over home clocking (apart from the warranty).
it's all a lot easier and better than when I last overclocked a PC component (hopping up a P75 to a staggering indicated 120mhz) :)

I think the factory ones are a mix of software, improved heat sink and fans.
At home your just going with whats on there and whats in your box and hopin it don't melt.

Easier if change to a water cooling solution.

Funny you mention it, that P75 did start smoking one day :) The actual layour of the XFX 7600s seem to be more or less comparable though, not a huge number of board modifications. Hmm.

I actually overclocked an 800 Duron to think it was a 1500 worked great until I tried to push it to 2000, then the thing caught fire. its all about cooling and how much heat the extra speed is gonna cause.

Supposedly the 7600s make very little heat... I saw a feature where they managed to get one to run stable with just a plain heatsink. Not oerclocked, though.
My account at Overclockers UK's forum's finally been activated, so hopefully I'll be able to get a conclusive answer from there- but thanks for the help guys.
