Apologies for Dumbass question;
What's the best SAE 10W-40 Oil to use for topping up my K4.
Its done about 2k and its first service was approx Sept 05.
The reason I ask is the manual say's to use SF or SG under the API service classifcation.
Does this mean Fully or Part Synthetic oil or something else.
What does everyone recommend.
Thanks for your help!

Semi synthetic,any brand that meets the spec,and change the oil at the correct intervals.Check level often and no skimping. :lol:
The SF/SG part refers to the grade of oil. Early oils have a grade of SA and weren't very resistant to breaking down, which meant much more frequent changes. Motul 5100 for me. What ever Hein offer in their service pack. You get the Oil, plugs and Oil filter plus a free air filter if they have them in stock.

i didnt get plugs :? Maybe you don't then. I know its a good price for what you do get. They didn't have any air filters in when I did my curvy so I ordered from M&P instead as I was ordering other stuff and saved me a trip to Newcastle

I say top up with remainder of whatever was poured in at last change.
SE/SF rating means it is obsolete for cars, does not have new antifriction stuff for extra MPG in cars. This is good for bikes because the clutches slip with the antifriction stuff, as long as you have enough HP to worry about.
SF is $1 USD per quart at Walmart - cheapest oil out there, labeled "for 1970's cars". Or, $6 a quart at Suzuki.
Go cheap, change 2x a year, dont worry. Blow your savings on actually changing the filter each time plus a fresh bottle of chain lube.
