Hi Guys and girls.
Andy13_uk on this forum had an accident on a rideout with a few members from another forum.
Story as follows:
It was the Bexhill dual-carriageway. Davo and Mike were behind him, but it's a bit of a mystery why he went off (straight-lined from a lean straight into the kerb). The traffic lights were up ahead, so maybe he panic-braked for them...there was a car in front of him, maybe he panic-braked for that...it was very windy, with strong gusts, so maybe he was blown sideways...or he might have hit a patch of oil, because Joe said my rear went squiffy at the exact same point of the bend (me and Joe were in front).
Davo was hit by the fork and wheel unit, which smashed his crankcase open, lucky escape at that speed. Mike got through the debris unscathed. Some woman is claiming off Andy's insurance for scratched paint caused by the flying debris. The road was still closed four hours later when we were coming back.
Andy has had the escape of his life, sad as it is to lose his bike. Hopefully they'll transfer him to Eastbourne DGH soon as they've fixed him up, but I'll be going up to Hastings regardless soon as his mum says he's conscious again (morphine).
The thread and some rather nasty looking pictures 3/4 of the way down the first page of the thread.

Just thought I'd let you know as I know he was chuffed to bits with his sv and only had it a couple of months at that. He also bought it from a fellow member off this board.
Get well soon Andy, hope the recovery period is quick.
*admin - if in wrong section, pelase move, I didn't know where to put it*
Not nice to hear at all, please give him our very best wishes and we hope for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep us informed, thanks.

The pics send a reminder to us all, totally shocking.
Hope he recovers soon.
And as one member said on the linked forum, f##k the bike as long as he is still around.
Get well soon.
One of those pictures is very disturbing, so anyone that is a little queezy over this sort of thing best not go there.
That must have been one hell of a crash, I reckon he's pretty lucky to have gotten away with what he has :( .

SH!T, get well soon mate, and don't worry about the bike glad you're still here
Those pictures really bring it home, don't they? :(
Poor Andy. Hope you ain't in hospital too long mate and the recovery, swift and relatively pain-free.
bloody hell that is bad :( :(
please everyone give yourself a chance
you are never as good as you think
don't ride fast in bad conditions
keep a safe gap
give yourself plenty of space from hazards and the time to deal with unexpected things
the road is not a race track although we might like to think so at times, accidents like this bring it home that one day someone might not be so lucky as this guy and it will be police officers knocking on the door giving the tragic news of a death, not your brother, sister, son, daughter, father, mum or friend coming back on the bike giving the great news of how good the ride was.
please ride safe all there have been too many of these recently..
biking is fun and exhilarating, lets keep it that way without getting killed.

If you read the BCF thread it mentions the "spirited" ride and that they were at some speed when it happened. Though it isnt mentioned what the speed was exactly, Im wondering what else it could really be? :? :(

B.B. I think it reasonably safe to suggest that the bike hit the mentioned tree at a fair rate of knots. Doing that at the right angle would be more than enough to cause the damage shown. Trees are not something you want to be hitting either yourself or with the bike at any time. They always win. :?
Also let's not forget....motorcycles are not at all designed for impact.

I read one post that said that he was doing 'legal speeds'.
Very unlikley that it snaped before the crash though. The impact with the tree could be a very likley factor or going head over tail.

Hmm legal speeds huh, he'd just left a 30MPH limit, and gone into a 40MPH (dual carriage way), about to leave 40MPH and enter another 30MPH. Not very legal, must have been going some for that sort of damage.
edit. I really do feel for the guy, no I don't know him, but he's one of us (a biker), and we all get a little carried away one time or another.
Wish him a speedy recovery, and hope that he is back on the road soonest.

I think the frame snap was certainly due to the crash...and would have been going a hell of a rate of knots too. Took the carbs too if you look.
Jeez...went to bed with those images in my head...Maybe because it's a SV or maybe because it is some guy of this forum...but it certainly has hit a sore spot.
I hope the guy recovers quicky and tells his story...
Sorry to read of the off, the pictures are pretty bad news..
Hope you get better soon

I had a good ride home from work today.
I probably topped out at 85 - 90 on dual carriageway.
WHY?
Just reading about another biker down made me feel uncomfortable and I considered not looking at the photos.
However I did look and I have to say it made me feel sick.
Andy, I wish you a speedy recovery.
I wish you hadnt had the accident
If one other biker avoids the same fate having seen the pictures I hope it will make you feel just a little better.
Hope you get better very soon Andy.
Them photos sent shivers down my spine
Get well soon fella

let's hold off on the speed judgements guys - it isn't going to help Andy get better and none of us know what really happened...
Peter Henry
05-04-06, 06:20 PM
At the end of the day I am sure Andy was going at a speed that many of us have done on similar kinds of roads. We are not here to judge but reserved comment is surely acceptable.
Hope the healing is well under way mate. 8)

Mate,
You make me feel very very lucky after my off the other week...
Heal soon (but I don't think your bike will )
.
Its that last picture, wasn't expecting that, that's as bad as it gets really, he is lucky to be still alive.
I took the long way home last night, made some silly decisions overtaking where i shouldn't and all that, I'm sure I'm not the only one but those pictures do bring it home. I will be a bit more carefull tonight.
Hope you make a quick and full recovery Andy.

Has anyone got an update on Andy and how hes getting on? I don't know the guy but still want to know if hes gonna be alright so if anyone has news then let us all know.
If you follow the link on Istigator first post and go the page 7 (i think) they have a picture of Andy sitting up in hospital, looks like he is recovering well.
To save peeps trawling through the thread here it is:

i've said it on bcf, but i'll say it again.
get well quick.
also it may or may not interest you to know siggi and davo (on bcf) are trying to raise some money for andy, as a sort of ppresent or what have you. if you know andy, and/or wish to donate then just pm either of them on bcf.
if you dont, then just disregard what i just said
Paul
Glad to see Andy is making a good recovery.
The local rag (http://www.bexhilltoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=494&ArticleID=1429997) shows a pretty horrific pic of the remains of half the bike against a tree! the rest of it, the front wheel, front forks and radiator bounced back into the path of a car.
They almost got the make of bike correct ! SV660.
